It is easy to set out into the unknown.
It is difficult to set out into the unknown.
It is easy. It is difficult.
Is it?
I awoke on a day, in a month, in a year.
I awoke after having seen the problem - the problem that stared into my dreams to make sure I was asleep; the void that permeated my entire being for such a long time; the hollow black emptiness like thin crystal icicles that would shatter if I thought upon it.
It was this sense that had taken me to the farthest reaches of the unknown world, this same floating awareness that clung to me ever so viciously as if to loose the life within me. I knew what it was or rather, came to understand it in time. The problem stood there undefined for such a long time. I had all the information with which to deal with it yet could not. It was a very thin line that held me in check and a thinner one still that allowed me to pass.
The problem was a mystery of paradoxes, a mathematical problem that appeared to lack a solution. It was like a collection of mirrors reflecting themselves and each not knowing its own true reflection.
Animated mirrors tend to lose their singular identity when placed in large collective groups. They only are what they are in relation to the group or system in which they are functioning. It is useless to speak of one mirror without considering the others. When this is done, our initial mirror, a real silver mirror may tend to forget that it is real. It may become part of the others and unknown to itself, experience a very real feeling of loss of identity. A problem so slight for an untrained mirror may, you might say, be resolved quite easily. But it is the initial thought of the identity crisis that this mirror faces that will sends its mind deeper and deeper into itself, deeper and deeper into the reflections of others to learn the sanity and madness of meaning, to learn the truths of the world.
It is all very fine to speak of mirrors that may have problems that are to be resolved. It is indeed a far greater and more important thing to speak of human beings, real and alive, who venture out on the same journey with little guidance and even less support from their fellow man.
It is a far more terrifying and enlightening experience for this person to set out on a trip to discover his identity within a system, not realizing that the greatest danger is his self.
