Journal Entry (August 8, 2013)
They say we never really know who we are until we do, and for most people there is a certain point in their life where they realize their potential or their true self. But don't count me in, growing up I've always known that I was different from most girls my age. I act differently, think differently and well, I'm just plain different.
I wasn't a weirdo, maybe just a little, but there are just things about me that don’t correlate with how most people think that a girl should be like.
While most girls are busy playing dolls and talking about boy crushes in grade school, then actually having boyfriends and even doing the deed in high school I was contented sticking my nose in a book or writing random stuff in my journals.
You probably think I’m complaining, but no I'm not. I have a pretty good life. I can even say I have it better than most people. I grew up in nice neighborhood in Minneapolis called Cathedral Hill. Some people would even say that it’s the oldest most elegant neighborhood in the city. I live in a big caramel colored house adorned with different kinds of flowering plants in a very healthy garden. With me live my parents Liz and John who are as workaholic as they are loving.
My mom and dad own several franchises of pharmacies. They are both pharmacists who graduated from the same school and met during their freshman years.
And for siblings? Well, I guess they are as good as it gets, my brothers are Vincent and Charlie they are both boys and they're twins so they have a lot of fun together, they're 7 years younger than me so they make my life pretty fun and annoying at the same time.
My parents are actually kind of cool; I didn't have the scary kind of coming out story. There wasn't even a "coming out" issue at home. I guess they've just always known. They loved me so they accepted it. Although I haven't tried the limit of that cause I've never brought home a girl. Maybe someday..
Going back to myself, I've always been aware that I don't get attracted to guys to my age. To be clear I don't get attracted to guys PERIOD, whether they're old, young, and cute or have a nice personality. I mean I'm not a man-hater. I like them just enough I think they make good brothers, fathers or even friends.
Before we go on let me just tell you a little something about myself, my name is Darren McCabe, I'm 19 years old. I am studying in Fraser University taking up Arts Bachelor in Mass Media currently a junior.
How do I look like? I’m average tall? To be honest I'm short, only 5"4, normal built. I have a nice smile (my mom said), creamy complexion and layered violet hair. Yep, violet, it’s my favorite. My bed is violet; my journals are violet and my favorite food? "Halayang Ube" of the Philippines. It's so good I can taste it in my mouth for days after I've eaten.
And of course I brush my teeth.
I've love the life I already have but here I am venturing college life wanting to get out of this town as soon as possible and dreaming making it big to the city. Where? The Big apple of course. I want to be a writer or an advertising person at least. I'm not really sure yet. Anyway I’m not in any hurry to decide.
So all my life, things have mostly gone the way I want them to. I graduated with fair enough grades in high school so I was accepted in the University that I liked. I have above average grades. I have a lot of acquaintances and a few close friends. My life is basically in harmony with my inner being..
"Darren!! Vincent !! Charlie!!" my mom shouted from downstairs.
This means its dinnertime so I close my journal and pray to the writing gods that I remember what to write later or else they're just gonna go to the frozen wasteland called the dark side of my brain.
