So this story is loosely based on a legend of a mythological creature by the name of Nokken. This creature is by myth a sinister male freshwater spirit in Norwegian and Swedish folklore. He is said to reside in dark waters such as ponds, lakes or rivers. The Nokken is also presumably a shapeshifter as he can take both the form of a handsome man or that of a monster made of twigs and weed. In some cultures even comes as a white horse.

The Nokken is heard to play the most beautiful music in the world with the use of a fiddle or even in some stories, A harp.  However, this can be a very terrible curse, as he is said to brainwash his victims and lure them into the depths of his waters and drowning them to feast. He is a bloodthirsty and evil creature...however in quite a few stories he is made out to be a very saddened and broken man mourning his own existence. Now you see, that's just the basics. I would go even further and tell you more about this creature, however I believe that you get the gist and will understand more as you read.
