Chapter XVI

In Atlanta

I walked in my old bedroom with Tanya who asleep on my hip just looking around remembering everything. So many memories in this room like my first time getting high with Dee and my cousin Kayla. We all got our asses whooped when my momma came home because we forgot to clean out the smell and also our eyes were red. I laid Tanya down on my old bed and headed back downstairs where everyone else is. Tanya is staying in my old room while Harry and I stay in the room next door which was Dee's old room.

"Why do your parents have pictures of Dee?' Harry asked pointing.

"Because Dee is our daughter too we adopted her after her mom who is my sister ran off and her dad ain't shit". Mom explained.

"Dee's dad is my dad she's my sister but we don't care that's always going to be my sister and guess what momma?' I smiled leaning over the corner"You about to be a grandma". I giggled.

" Who pregnant?' Mom asked.

"Dee going to be a mother momma she's about to have a little mix baby". I said.

"I'm beating that girl's ass she should have told her momma". Mom joked.

At dinner

"Momma you put yo foot in these greens". I smiled eating.

"Granny threw down in the kitchen". Tanya said sounding a lot like me.

"Thank you my babies I got these greens from Miss. Parker's garden". Mom said eating some chicken.

"Miss. Parker still with her husband's brother?' I asked.

"Nah she got caught with the pastor's son last night husband came home caught them in the bedroom, chase the pastor's son for ten blocks before losing him on the freeway". Dad explained causing us all to laugh.

After dinner was over Harry and my dad went to go have a drink in his office while I tucked Tanya in for the night. Yawning I headed back downstairs where I found my mom in the kitchen washing the remaining dishes in the sink. Looking around I noticed my parents done some redecorating to this while place. Like some of the broken stuff that was there are no longer here. There was hole between the fridge and island where I've kicked because I had my very first fight. There was girl in my class in 8th who thought it was funny and cute to pour glue and glitter all over my hair. I beat her ass Dee and Kayla got her two best friends who beat they're asses. Then when my momma got up to the school she beat the girl's mom ass. It was funny and we later we laughed it off.

"Hey baby". Mom smiled as I sat down.

"Hey momma what you doing?' I asked leaning on my elbows.

"Just thinking about you, Tanya and you're crazy ass brother ". Mom said taking the sit next to me" I talked to him this morning before y'all came and I couldn't help but think where I went wrong with this boy sometimes I mean I look at you and seen how well you're doing for yourself I look at my grand baby and prey that she does right when she gets older I know she ain't nothing like that man or that chick but knowing she was brought into this world by those kind of problems breaks my heart". She explained playing with her ring.
"Sometimes I worry the same if she really witnessing some terrible and unthinkable things but even thought I can't shield her from everything I can make sure this baby grows up right". I said grabbing her hand"Momma no matter what I'm always going to protect Tanya like I've always been doing". I whispered.
"I know baby ". Mom smiled before kissing my cheek.
By the time I had crawled into bed Harry was already in bed sleep so I just rolled over and held his strong arm over mines. Closing my eyes I felt his arms wrapped around me and pull me closer following by a sweet gentle kiss onto my forehead. Smiling I kissed his arm before we both drafted back to sleep. There nothing better then falling asleep in your lover's arms.
