I glare at Jared from across the room, angrily putting a bite of noddles in my mouth.

"You can glare at me all you want, you are getting out tonight." He states nonchalantly looking down at his phone.

His slender finger drum against his phone case. Slim frame sitting tall and comfortably in the chair despite my glare. Green eyes focusing on the text on the screen, like dark Evergreen trees reaching for light. Pink lips purse as his round jaw juts forward. His black hair is short on the sides and longer towards the top, lazily draping against his forehead. His skin has a warm summer glow, a flawless tan. His long nose twitches as his eyes meet mine.

"Go get ready."  He states.

"Can I ask were we are going?"

A small smirk pulls against his lips. "A little party in the French Quarter."

My eyebrows knit together in confusion. "Isn't the Quarter dangerous for humans?"

He sighs dramatically. "Yes, but it's not as if you are going alone, Marcus and I will be there."

I sigh getting off the couch. "You say that as if it is suppose to make me feel better."

"You know we would never let anything happen to you." Marcus states coming into the room.

"Oh she knows." Jared begins with a smile. "She's just got to be snippy."

I stick my tongue out at him which he quickly returns.

"You two are children." Marcus sighs.

I give him a small smile before shutting the door. After my shower, I blow dry my hair, wrapping a towel around me before heading  to my room. I find a dress and a pair of shoes laying out on my bed. I roll my eyes knowing this is probably Jared's doing. The dress is a deep ruby red, with straps that cover the tips of my shoulders. The back has a circular opening, that leads down to a corset ribbon. The bodice is form fitting before flaring out just above the hips, and above the waist is a small lace design in the shape of an arrowhead. It is beautiful, but the open back kind of scares me. I look over my shoulder into the mirror, seeing the thin white scars that litter my back and shoulders. A knock on my door causes me to jump.

"Hurry up already." Jared calls.

"I'm worried about this dress." I mumble.

He sighs. "Just trust me Serena, okay?"

I stare at myself in the mirror. My blonde tresses falling gently against my shoulders, my hair is curled and the top half is pull back keeping it out of my face. My eyes rake over my figure, a deep ocean blue peppered with clusters of green sea foam. A light golden eye shadow, give my eyes and soft glow, which are framed by my thick dark lashes. My full lips are painted a dark red, matching my dress almost perfectly. I sigh sitting on my bed picking up the pair of heels, black shoes with a gold bottom and heel. I slip them on, quickly standing up, wobbling a bit. My door flies open, Jared is standing there in a black suit a smile on his face.

"Good you're ready."

I sigh follow him out into the living room, Marcus smiles at me also dressed in a dark suit. I see a gold chain and pendent dangling from his fingers.

"What's that?"

"Extra precaution." He states gently setting against my skin and clipping it in the back.

I stare down at it, knowing that the pendent is full of an herb called vervain. It matches my small gold earrings. I glance up at them.

"How long have you guys been planning this?"

They glance at each other before looking at me.

"We don't know what you're talking about?" Jared states, pulling a mask from behind his back. "Now here, the final touch."

I look at the mask, it is black with gold accents.

"A masquerade party?" I question placing the mask to my face as Marcus ties the ribbon.

"It's a fund raiser event that an acquaintance of our is having." Marcus states.

"So there'll still be vampires, but also quite a bit of humans too." Jared says.

"It's not a feeding party."

I slightly flinch at Marcus' choice of words. Jared and Marcus both place a mask on their face, each offering me an arm.

"Shall we get going?" Marcus questions with a smile.

I return his smile looping my arms with theirs.
