I woke up to my cell phone ringing at 10:29, after checking the caller ID I realized it was Rachel and snatched it up, coughed twice and picked up just before the last ring.
"Hello?" I managed
" Hey Liv! It's Rachel, you are in town right?" Without waiting for my answer she continued talking " So we are going to the beach today, wanna come??"
" Yeah, I'd love to... Just let me get ready."
" Ok cool I'll be there in 15 minutes, Oh and did Austin text you? He wont stop asking about you..."
" Yeah he did, he wants to grab a coffee soon!"
" Aweeee!" she said in a Minnie Mouse sounding voice. " Anyway I gotta drive I'll see you in 15!"
With a smile, I grabbed one of the bikinis I unpacked last night from the old dresser in the opposite corner to my bed. Over the blue and white striped bikini, (which according to Rachel really went well with my dark hair and olive skin,) I pulled on a pair of ripped up light washed denim shorts and my old well-worn Nirvana tee.
I brushed my teeth and bulled my hair into a loose ponytail. Running down the stairs, I almost knocked over my dad carrying a coffee and a copy of the 'Coast Collective' the local newspaper
"Woah kiddo! Slow down."
" Sorry Dad! I gotta meet Rachel"
" Okay be home for supper, your board is in the truck"
Passing my mom in the kitchen she handed me an orange
" Eat something... Can't surf on an empty stomach"
" How did you know I was going surfing?" I asked
" Ive only seen you move that fast for two things Olivia, sales in an art store or to go out to the beach with your friends.Be back by suppertime. Say hi to Rach and the gang for me will you?"
" Of course Mom! Bye"
With a pat to Memphis's head I was out the door. I headed over to the truck and was greeted by Darren and his totally georgous girlfriend Chloe, total beachy girl with long curly blond hair and light blue eyes. After a hello from both of them Darren handed my my board then they jumped in the truck and drove off. I walked to the end of the drive way to see Rachel's green jeep turning down the street.
When she pulled up she jumped out to hug me and helped me strap my board into the back, next to hers which was pink with neon flowers all over it. Compared to hers mine was kind of boring, an off white colour with three stars and a creasent moon at the top, inside each star was a small mandala pattern. Simple but pretty. As soon as we jumped back into the jeep the stereo was booming the latest pop track from the towns boy band ' Summer of Sands'. We started singing, just like old times and headed for the beach.
