The team was ready to go. They planned on going to a smaller HYDRA base in New York, thanks to what Clint said.
It was Steve, Thor, Tony, and Bucky. They didn't want to bring anyone else, or else there would be too many people and they didn't know if they would need The Hulk or S.H.I.E.L.D Agents. But, they were on call in case they needed backup.
"My Midgardian brothers! Let us go save this damsel in distress!" Thor called, walking onto the QuinJet.
"She's not really a damsel in distress." Bucky muttered, cleaning his gun once again.
"But isn't every woman?" Thor asked, placing his hammer down and sitting down in a seat.
"Nope. Maybe in your world, but not here. Not anymore." Bucky said, pushing some hair out of his face.
"Have you ever considered putting your hair up in a ponytail?" Tony asked, walking over in his suit.
  "Shut it, Stark."
"No, I'm serious. It would be beneficial in fights and daily tasks, you know? I think it's a great idea."
"You just want to see me with my hair in a ponytail."
"Can you blame me? That would be hilarious."
Bucky rolled his eyes and contained a grin.
"Alright team, we know there's a HYDRA base in California, and that is where we are going. We aren't necessarily going there just to stop their base, but we will do that while we are there."
Steve said, strolling into the jet.
"So we kill two birds with one stone?" Tony asked.
"Exactly."

                                                                                  *****

"Tony, take Thor and go right, me and Buck'll go left. If you find anyone, interrogate them before you kill them."
   "Aye aye, Captain."
Tony took off down the hall with Thor behind him. Their footsteps echoed off the cold empty halls.
   "Cmon, Buck. Let's go."
The pair walked down the left hall, Bucky holding his gun ready, and Steve with his shield in hand.
It was silent for most of the walk until they heard two pairs of footsteps and voices. They froze in spot before pressing their bodies against the dark walls.
"I don't think she should've been let out."
"She'll be fine. She's done it before."
"Yeah, but we haven't done it in a while and she was harder to keep under control. And doing it so close to us?"
The bodies that belonged to the voices passed the corner. As soon as they were in the light, Bucky and Steve grabbed them and pushed them against the wall.
The HYDRA people whimpered in pain and surprise.
"Where the hell is she?" Bucky growled, his face dangerously to his victims.
"Where's who?"
Bucky slammed him back into the wall.
"You know who! The other Soldier you made. Where is she?"
"Oh, The Killing Soldier. She's gone."
"Gone?" This time, it was Steve who spoke, looking between his agent and Bucky's.
  "Gone."
"What the hell do you mean, gone?" Bucky asked.
"Just-Just like y-you, we had to give her mi-missions." One stuttered out, trying to get out of Bucky's iron grip.
"And where the hell is she, huh?" Bucky demanded, pressing against him harder.
"Classified."
  "I'll fuckin' show you classified!"
"Buck! Relax!" Steve called, feeling as if Bucky was going too far.
"I can't! If she's put there she could be hurting herself and other people. I can't sit by that."
"I know that, but we'll find her before she can do any more of that. Okay?"
Bucky visibly relaxed, but not enough to make Steve feel any better.
Quickly, Steve placed his hand over his agent's mouth and nose, encouraging Bucky to do the same.

Thor, Tony, Steve, and Bucky stood outside the HYDRA base, talking about what they learned.
"We learned that she was let out of the ice earlier today. They didn't tell us where, though," Steve said, eyeing Bucky.
"Same here, nobody said a thing. Lips locked shut. But, they did mumble something about her being nearby." Tony said, flipping up his mask.
"Nearby? Like, how nearby?" Bucky asked, and it sounded rushed.
"Probably close enough that we could split up and find her in at least three hours." Tony barely got to finish his sentence before Bucky was talking over him.
"Okay then we should split up and look for her, right? I'll go over there and you three just walk in different directions and we'll speak over com or something-"
"Bucky, we don't have com's." Steve pointed out.
"Actually, I do. It's part of the suit. I like Bucky's strategy, though. Straight into battle type thing." Tony said, tapping his helmet.
Steve shot Tony a 'shut-up' look and Tony backed away from the conversation.
"Buck, we should go back to the tower and get the rest of the guys and some com's. Then we can go find her, alright?
Bucky wanted to argue, but he knew that Steve was right, once again.
"Always gotta be right, huh Stevie?"

                                                                        ******

They were back where they started in under two hours due to hastiness. They had split up into teams of six, spreading out in different directions.
Bucky was on a team with Tony, and he was rambling on about anything and everything. Bucky knew he was concentrating, it just always seemed like he never did.
Sometime between Microbots and Chemical-electronics Bucky's' mind faded into a memory.

It was rare that two HYDRA soldiers were put on an assignment together. He liked those rare times. They were on a rooftop somewhere grey and murky, guns in hands and eyes on the road.
His head turned to the left, looking at the other soldier.
The Killing Soldier, he reminded himself.
She turned to him as well, she was keeping more than half her focus on the road and the other part on Winter.
Something in her eyes turned soft. It wasn't soft enough to indicate that she was not her soldier anymore, but it was something different. Winter exploded with tiny feelings in his gut and he didn't understand.
He turned back to the street. Fifth and twenty-fourth.

Bucky stopped moving. Did he stop before or after the flashback?
"Bucky?"
He looked at Tony, and suddenly he knew something.
"I think I know where she is."
