“What am I doing…?” Hiccup thought to himself while waiting with Astrid in the airport’s waiting line. What he didn’t expect was him saying it out loud.
“You’re going to visit your boyfriend, dork…” she answered while playing with a lock of her long blonde hair. “Why? You getting cold feet?” She asked as she looked at him.
Hiccup didn’t answer, instead he simply looked down at the floor while playing with a broken line of his green hoodie, his thoughts lost somewhere deep in his mind. It was somewhat cold in Berk so he had decided to wear some denim jeans, a white undershirt and his favorite hoodie. Astrid, unlike him, wasn’t feeling so cold. She was wearing black combat boots, small shorts that got every guy and even some girls ogling at her, a yellow turtle neck shirt with short sleeves, she also wore her hair in a braid that she would play with unconsciously.
“Oh… right… I’m visiting Jack for the first time… in what? 5 years? Jeeez… who would have thought…” Hiccup thought while walking with the line. Hiccup and Jack had been in a long distance relationship for almost 3 years without ever meeting in person, they had never touched each other, but they sure texted a lot. To say the truth, they had never heard each other’s voice before or seen each other besides through pictures they would randomly send each other.
“It’s been 5 years since Jack and I started to talk… And all thanks to Astrid and Punzie…” Truth was they had only met because their friends were childhood friends. Punzie used to live in the same town as Hiccup and Astrid before she had to move away with her parents, but even after that Astrid kept in touch with Punzie. Hiccup could still remember the first time he and Jack had texted. Hiccup turned his face to look at his best friend. She truly was beautiful and he was sure that if he was straight he would have drooled over her ever since she came up to him during lunch hour in 3rd grade and simply started chatting with him as if they had known each other since forever. She had been there for him at all times and he felt like she was the person he trusted the most in all world (Besides Jack of course).
“Hiccup… could you please text Punzie through my phone please? Tell her I’ll be coming back in a few hours okay? When I come back from the shower we’ll hit the movies to see that movie you wanted to see so much” Astrid asked Hiccup while holding her stuff for the shower, Hiccup was sitting on her bed reading a book and simply nodded. After Astrid had left the room to take a shower he grabbed her phone, inserted the password that his best friend had shared with him and searched for Punzie’s contact through the contacts before sending a short text explain the situation to Punzie. A bit after he had sent the text Astrid’s phone vibrated and unconsciously Hiccup unlocked it and read the message, not expecting that that simple action would lead into such big changes.
‘Oh, you’re Astrid right? Punzie’s childhood best friend? ;) Punzie is helping her mom, I’m her friend, Jack’
Hiccup simply read the message and his mind pondered between waiting for Astrid to come back and answering right at that moment.
Of course he choose the latter, he just didn’t expect jack to actually become interested in him and actually asking his phone number so that they could keep texting each other. Hiccup had only been 15 when that happened and Jack was 16. Hiccup and Jack kept texting each other every single day and at first it was only simple texts like: ‘hey, how’s school?’ but in a few months they became great friends even though they had never seen each other or had any idea of what the other looked like. One year after that Hiccup accidentally revealed he was gay to Jack… He hadn’t really planned and when he realized what he had said in a text it was already too late. He was already expecting jack to never text him back but a few seconds after he had sent the message his phone vibrated and the text made him go wide eyed.
