Chapter 5

“Incompetence gentlemen incompetence. Fifteen years we have prepared for this operation, yet on day five week one you all messed it up.”

Lieutenant Colonel Townsend was in between ranting and raging throughout the duration of this call. The boys and I were sitting in the conference room with our heads hanging low. We knew from the get go this this would not be a pleasant conversation, but it is worse than I had feared, “You insolent boys have blown your cover.”

I stood up in a unwavering position, “Sir we have not blow our cover.”

Townsend stopped ranting and stared right through my eyes and directly at soul, or at least that was what it felt like, “Pretale Captain Pierce, how is your cover still intact.”

Already had the boys and I prepared n acceptable story, I thought I might be having to explain myself to the General himself, “Reverse psychology sir. It was your belief that the RANTS agents were on our tails. Well they would've known that we were to remain silent throughout the year, However I did not hesitate to intervene perhaps I was just living up to my fake name.”

Townsend whom seemed to be slowly buying my story motioned for me to go on. Instead Micheal stood up saluting, “Sir you enrolled us as children of the military. Sons of fathers who severed, giving us rich military backgrounds. We have made this known in all of our classes when people have asked us about it.”

Elier then added, “Captain Pierce has done nothing against the rules Colonel. However in the future I will do better to remind him that this is a Utilitarian mission.”

Townsend scratched and massaged his beard in deep thought, “Perhaps...Captain Pierce that is strike one. You are children, you will make mistakes of course, however do not find yourself at a third strike Captain. You may be children, but that will not be an excuse when people have died.”

I saluted strongly, “yes sir, thank you sir.”

Elier and Micheal matched my pose as the Colonel ended our call. We all took a deep breath and sighed with mental stress. Elier said, “We better get going to the game soon. For some reason I feel this is not going to to be the last eventful thing to happen today.”

Micheal reached over and smacked Elier upside the head, “Way to jinx it moron!”

I growled quietly, “Enough boys. Now that we aren't at school we can risk taking our knives into the stadium. We will be reasonably safe on school district property.”

My friends grumbled and trekked their way over to the armory. We each picked out a few close combat weapons, non lethal of course, and made our way up stairs. The clock read 7:15 which meant the game would start in fifteen minutes. We all made a quick change of clothes and darted out the door before the clock ever changed to 7:16.

Line Break

It was a pretty peppy night out. Our cross state rivals Skyline High school which had traveled to play in our new stadium. It wasn't a sell out, but there were lots of people. The stadium itself was rather huge, not ridiculously huge, but I definitely feel that it could be the size of a small college stadium. A grand staircase lead to the stands, but from the freeway and the parking lot, you could hardly see the stadium at all. On the inside the field was the nice turf that still looked brand new. The end zone looked fresh and our mascot emblem of the warrior was stamped perfectly on each side. Of course the home seats were also decorated red and black for our school colors, and the away side was just fairly nice stadium seating, instead of usual high school bleachers. Once you go up the stairs and enter the stadium officially, on that “sky” level as they call it, there is multiple concession stands, booster stuff, the box office, and an entrance to the locker rooms.
