Lauren's POV

Everyone was asleep. The space was small but could just about fit all of us. I could hear the wind gently rock out stick and leaf made shelter. Dani was snoring gently however I was worried someone or something would hear us. Soon she stopped which was a relief.

Suddenly a light shone brightly, I covered my eyes.

"Wha-" Christina said but Lisa covered her mouth. I heard a dog barking which confused me a little but also scared me because I hate dogs. The barking got closer and closer until I could see it. It was supersize, with a spiked collar around the neck and the sharpest teeth. It's feet were in some sort of metal spiked balls. It was very wound up.

I gripped into the ground as I tried to stay as still as possible. I shut my eyes tightly. I could hear the dog breathing as it circled the area just missing our hidden shelter. It started to bark again but then the barking got further and further again.

Things got quiet for a while but I couldn't sleep it was a cold windy night so it only added to my worry. I mentally sighed as I lay awake thinking.

"Lauren?" I heard Dani whisper

"Yeah?" I whispered back

"What do you think could happen next?" She asked

"I really don't know but we're gonna make it through everything, we'll be just fine and one day we'll have freedom" I smiled

"I hope so"

I started to think. Will we ever have freedom? This is the most free I've ever been but I know this isn't true freedom. We're being watched where we go I know we are....you can't get away that easily....this world is a cruel place.

My birthday is coming up too, I've never really celebrated a birthday. I've only ever gotten one birthday present it was only my first birthday, a birthday I don't remember. I traced the wording on the bracelet.

Happy first birthday Lauren Christine C

No one at the boarding school knew about this, I'd have been in deep trouble if they did. I was always called Lauren Marie Price. I knew that wasn't my name. I'm not sure I'll ever know what "C" stands for.

Suddenly it started to rain, heavy acid rain. (;///) even the ground beneath me was soaking up. The night felt never ending. The usual acid rain became heavy droplets, they hurt as they touched my skin. A sound was heard in the distance.

"We have to run! Here cover yourself with these!!" Lisa shouted passing out plastic sheets that we put over ourselves. "On the count of 3 you have to all run faster than you've ever ran before because the second we go danger has started"

We looked confused at her

"It's just the way things work around here" she shrugged "okay...1...2...3!"

We ran and ran until my legs started aching and nearly giving way.

"Lauren keep up!" Christina shouted glancing at me. I looked behind me. There were small robotic creatures with blades around them from every direction. They started launching towards us. I screamed

"Run!!" Lisa shouted. It was getting harder and harder, we must have at least ran a mile by now.

"Hide behind something and throw these!" Lisa instructions handing us small daggers. I hide behind a large tall tree. I threw as best I could. The robots started to hurry past us.

"Duck!" Lisa said, we all ducked so that we weren't caught.

"Okay we'll be safe soon, look the sun is rising"
