Tuesday was yet another terrible day of posing as Will's girlfriend. I had no idea why I didn't just start yelling that we weren't dating. Probably because people would think I'm insane. Will despite being a totally annoying jerk is what the school seems to consider "out of my league" with his muscles and athleticism. I mean it was stupid. My math class was "out of his league" so why couldn't I be the superior one?
I got out of my car on time for once which was surprising. This time I was sure that everyone was staring at me. Almost everyone stopped their conversation and watched me as I walk by. It was unnerving. I wanted to bolt to the classroom, but I couldn't do that. I had to pretend not to notice them. That was until I got to the art room and Lacy just flat out confronted me.
"What makes you think that you can date Will?" She asked getting into my personal space.
"I don't know Lacy. Maybe because he asked me to date him and I am single?" I responded my voice dripping with attitude.
"Did you just say that to me?" She snapped. I paused trying to figure out what the big deal was. Then I noticed it. Lacy mainly wasn't single when she dated people. The people around us seemed to become gradually more interested in our conversation. Someone even took out a phone to film whatever they thought was about to happen. "Excuse me, but what are you doing?" Lacy yelled to the guy with the phone. "Did I give you permission to film me?!" I was surprised that she had gone after him and not me. I was nearly certain that she would have started to yell at me.
The guy paled obviously not wanting to become an enemy of Lacy. She snatched the phone from him and threw it on the ground.
"Hey-" He yelped in surprise, but before he could complain about the possible damages Lacy began to walk away. She flipped her hair and strutted into the newly unlocked classroom completely put together. I followed and threw my bag down before going to grab my art folder. I could not figure Lacy out at all. I glanced over to see her seriously sketching. She paused only to glare at me before returning to her artwork. I tried to run through a list of everything I knew about her. Volleyball, Will's ex, Oswald's ex, loud. I didn't know much about her at all.
I was on my way to lunch when I bumped into someone. "Oh sorry-" I mumbled. That was when I saw who it was. Greta.
"Thea, wait!" She yelled. I started to storm off. I did not want to talk to Greta of all people. "Thea, hey wait," I couldn't outwalk her, or out run here. Not only was I untalented in athletics, but Greta was supremely talented with volleyball, cheer, and soccer. I stared at one of Lacy's famous few friends.
"What do you want?" I said in annoyance. I did not want to talk to her. Not now. Not ever. "There is nothing for us to talk about." I was trying to focus on keeping myself calm.
"I want to apologize-" She started to say. I just stared at her my jaw clenched as she glanced around uncomfortably trying to see who was watching our exchange. Greta had the whole school fooled. Every last one of them saw her as perfect. She offered me a weak smile. "Could we go somewhere else?" She asked. We were in the busiest part of the quad.
"No, you wanted to talk to me, so why can't I choose where?" I responded frowning. Was she really going to try to apologizenow for what she had done at the start of sophomore year? It was almost exactly a whole year later. I wasn't even with Beckett anymore, and only now she decides to apologize?
"Please-" She whispered green eyes pleading. "Thea, you know what it's about." I did know what it was about which was exactly why I didn't want to talk to her about it. I had trusted her. She was like a mentor to me, and one day I had found her- and Beckett- in a compromising situation. Both of them were not single at the time which made it even worse. All I could think about for the next few months was how Beckett might've been in love with Greta, and not me the whole time. How the only people I thought I could trust were a liars. It had crushed me.
