Introduction

It’s scary having to think that I have to go through the pain of birth, the screaming of a baby at night, watching it grow into a person, all on my own. The baby’s dad didn’t stick around, not that I wanted him too, he wasn’t a nice person. He was scum. My mum and dad died when I was young, leaving me with my aunt. She no longer wanted me around when I told her I was ‘knocked up’ I decided to make a new life of my own, just me.

I’m Sophia, I am 16 years old. 7 months pregnant.

Chapter One

2 months on…

I’m used to everybody staring at me now, after 9 months of it. My bump is enormous and I can hardly stand! It’s not been the most comfortable 9 months of my life but I can only blame myself for that, oh and him.

I had gotten a cheap one bedroom flat, which was just right for me and the baby. Also looking for jobs for when after the baby is born, finding a nice job in the local corner shop. I know it’s not my ideal job but it’s a start.

Moving in wasn’t difficult, seeing as I only had a few boxes full of clothes for me and the important stuff for the baby such as: cot, toys, nappies. My aunt ‘kindly’ let me take my bed and TV with me; oh she even lent me money to buy a sofa. I was going to be fine on my own; I just had to take it one step at a time…

My due date is in a week.

I gently brushed through my long brown hair, leaving it in its natural waves, I pressed down on my flowery white dress making sure there were no creases. Grabbing my shoulder bag and keys I made my way out the flat. I was going to buy the last minute things for the baby, making sure I was ready for when it came. Slamming the door shut I made my way to the entrance of the building, stopping to see a girl about my age, maybe older checking through her mail.

She turned around, noticing that I was staring at her, I mumbled a quick “good morning” to her and carried on walking. Only to hear her reply, “Hey, I haven’t seen you around before, just moved in?”

“Yeah, a few days ago”

“Oh, I’m Ava by the way”

“Sophia.”

“Right, well welcome to the building Sophia, I’ll see you around.” She smiled and made her way into her flat; I noticed that she lived in the one opposite to me.

Whilst walking to the bus stop I started to think about Ava, not once did she look at my bump, or even say anything about it, she spoke to me, smiled at me and made me feel welcome. This made me happy to know that not everyone in the world is so stuck up.

Picking up my pace, I finally made it to the bus stop, stopping to catch my breath. The bus came promptly; the doors slammed open making me jump. I got on maybe a little too quickly as I felt a pain in my stomach causing me to let out a cry. The bus driver looked at me with a worried expression on his face, “Alright love?” “Yeah, I’ll be fine” He held out his large hand and gave me my ticket; I took it and lightly smiled up at him, in a way of thanks.

Making my way towards the end of the bus I sat down in the only available seat, next to an old lady. She gave me disgusted look and looked towards the clear window, not taking a second glance. Carefully sitting down, I placed my delicate olive skinned hand on my bump. Something wasn’t right, but it wasn’t ready to come out yet, not until a week’s time.

The bus was a lot less empty now, I noticed my stop in sight, reaching out I pressed the stop button and heard a soft ‘ding’ I made my way to the front of the bus and waited for the doors to open, anxious to get off the bus. When they did open I looked around and thanked the bus driver. I stepped off the bus and my feet landed softly on the hard concrete below me. It was only a few minutes to walk to get to the town centre.
