I got into my truck at my lunch break and went over to visit my horse. When I pulled up in front of the barn and got out I could hear Jericho going crazy. I ran down the isle to his stall.
He calmed once I was inside. He nudged me and almost shoved me to the side. I lifted his head and held it up so he could look in my eyes. "You've never acted like this. Your fine. No one is going to hurt you." He snorted and rested his head on my shoulder.
He wasn't happy with being here, but he needed to trust people more than just me. I looked out the stall seeing Zach come up. "He's been like that all morning. I can't even get close enough to him to get the halter on." He told me.
I haltered him and put the lead on it. Then walked Jericho out and handed the lead to him. Zach started walking Jericho out to the ring. Jericho went with him willingly.
"I opened his stall door wide and closed all the doors in my barn letting him run around to get use to everything as I sat on a bale of hay." I told Zach before he went in.
"Might have to try that. Because if it worked for you then it might work for me." He said leading my horse to the center. Zach switched the leads to a lunge line and led Jericho around.
My alarm went off for me to get back to work. "If you need to get back he'll probably calm down as I work with him." Zach told me. "Alright then. I'll see you Monday." I said before turning to leave.
"I'll give you a report tomorrow." I gave him a thumbs up and went back to my truck. When I got back to the feed store Cash asked me where I went.
"Is it any of your business?" I asked him. "It is when your sneaking around with Zach Ray." I raised an eyebrow at him. "Where did you hear that?" I asked almost laughing as I went inside.
I got my sandwich out of the fridge and ate it then the grapes I brought with it. The afternoon was busier than this morning which kept me busy and my mind off of Jericho and Zach.
Finally there was a break in the crowd. I got something to eat and ate the peanut butter crackers. The bell above the door rang. I got up and went to see who it was.
Sawyer and three of his friends. I went back and say back down. Dad said I could refuse to serve them because of how rude they were.
"Katharine." Sawyer yelled. I ignored him. Then the bell rang again. I went out to see Jack and Zach come in. "Why didn't you come when you were called?" Sawyer asked.
"Because I chose to ignore you and your fake friends." I told him as I leaned against the counter. He glared at me. "I don't care if you chose to or....."
"No you think you're so superior to everyone else in this town. Well guess what your lower than the poorest people in town. Nobody likes you. Your so called friends there are fake. Your only popular because your dad is the mayor.
"Just wait until he's out of office. You will be a nothing in this town. Nobody will care about you or who your related to." I told him making him back down.
His fake posse left before I really said anything. "Just wait until I'm mayor." He said getting a little bit of courage. "You will never be mayor of this town." I told him. He stormed out and drove off.
I took a deep breath and turned around. "Remind me never to get on her bad side." Zach said. "You haven't seen anything yet." Jack told him. I went behind the counter and sat on the stool as they browsed.
I had an absolute headache from Sawyer just being here and talking. I rubbed my temples trying to get rid of it. "You ok Kat?" Jack asked. I nodded. "I'm fine. Sawyer just drives me insane."
"He drives us all insane." Jack said setting something on the counter. I got up and rang everything up. He left leaving me and Zach in the store.
"What are you looking for?" I asked him. "Something for Buck's birthday." He said. "How old is his pocket knife?" I asked. "He got it when he was thirteen." He told me.
I reached under the counter and brought out a display of pocket knives. "We've kept these hidden from view because of certain people that come in." I told him as he walked over.
There were several designs and types. "How about this one?" Zach asked holding one up. "Think you can afford it?" I asked. He smirked and pulled out his wallet. "Think I can." He told me.
He got the pocket knife and left. I put the display under the counter and checked the time. "Closing time Kat." Dad yelled. I closed the store up and left. When I got home I got a shower and ate something before going to bed.
