I walked into the ballroom, my heart ready to jump out of my chest. I glanced back to see Morgana giving me an encouraging smile through her emerald mask.

I took a deep breath, moving forward. It was just Arthur, after all. I saw the King sitting at the front of the ballroom, and then I looked at all the nobles surrounding me, and groaned internally. Okay, so it wasn't just Arthur.

I finally found the prince and smiled slightly. He was trying to mingle, or, more accurately, trying not to. Girls were coming up to him one after the other, asking for a dance, or just outright flirting, and I could tell Arthur was bored and annoyed, even with his mask on.

I made my way through, eventually coming up to stand in front of him. I smirked. "Care to dance?"

"N-" he looked at me and blinked. His eyes scanned over my face then my body and I bit my lip, my smirk turning into a smile. "Uh..."

I grabbed his hand lightly, completely giving him the chance to pull away, but he didn't. I began walking towards the dance floor, Arthur in tow. Soon, he took over, leading me along. He put one hand in mine and the other on my waist, while mine came up to rest on his shoulder.

I knew we were far away enough from the king by now, and that amongst the chatter and music no one else would hear us talk. "It's good to know you have eyes for no one but me," I teased.

He looked confused for half a second before his eyes widened, a blush forming on his cheeks. "Faye?"

I smiled widely. "You look very handsome, Arthur."

He grunted slightly, the blush becoming more prominent on his face. "You are stunning."

It was my turn to blush. I bit my lip again, looking down at our feet for a moment. "I... I wanted to dance with you." I looked into his blue eyes and smiled. "Morgana and Gwen helped me."

He shook his head with a little laugh, finding Morgana with his eyes. I watched him mouth, 'Thank you,' to her. "Does anyone else...?"

I shook my head. "I figured I'd tell Merlin later. And..." I let out a laugh. "I'm certainly not going to tell Gaius."

Arthur grinned. We talked for a little while, before I realized where we were and my heart swelled again. "This is really nice," I said quietly.

He hummed in agreement, bringing me closer as a slower song began playing. My head went up to his shoulder, just so that I could barely see over him, but I could still feel his breath on my neck. "It is nice, but I really want to kiss you right now."

My stomach flipped, a blush coating my cheeks. I was suddenly very aware of his hand on my waist, burning my skin through the dress. I scoffed at him a little, half rolling my eyes. "We can't."

"Not right now," he said, not-too-subtly hinting at later.

I smiled, silently agreeing. Definitely later.

My eyes went to search for the king, realizing that we had been dancing for a while. I found his eyes on us, studying our movements, and I swallowed. I sighed, stepping back a little to look up at Arthur. I couldn't help but study him for a minute; his blonde hair, bright blue eyes, chiseled jaw... kissable lips...

I blinked out of my trance, telling Arthur what I wanted to. "Your father is staring at us... I should go."

I watched him sigh, nodding his head. "Alright. Change, and then come to my room tonight. Around one. Okay?"

I just nodded, backing up and curtsying. He smiled, taking my hand and gently placing a kiss on my knuckles. I couldn't help but smile back, ignoring the sad feeling in my gut.

But as I lost myself in the crowd, making my way out and back to my chambers, the feeling started to take over. My eyes burned, and I tried as hard as I could to shake the feelings away. It felt as though Arthur and I would never be able to be together. Like that part of our lives would never happen. Sneaking around, pretending to be someone I wasn't... That wasn't how I wanted it to be. How I wanted us to be.

Wiping off the stray tear that fell down my face, I slowly opened the door, hoping not to wake Gaius up. Or Merlin, for that matter. But they both, thankfully, were deep sleepers, so after a long few minutes of sneaking in, I made it to my room safely.

I changed out of my getup, fixing my hair back to normal and putting it in a long braid in the back. I cleaned my face off, the excess makeup Morgana had put on me wiping away easily.

When it was almost one, I made my way out and up to Arthur's chambers. I knocked on the door softly. "Arthur?" After a moment, I grabbed the handle and opened the door slowly, gaping at what I saw.

The room was lit with candles in the darkness. The window was open, and I could hear the soft sounds of instruments continuing to play in the distant ballroom. Arthur was dressed back into his normal clothes, but he was still the most handsome man I'd ever met.

A wide smile spread across my face. "What is this?"

He reached out his hand and brought me closer. "We didn't get to finish our dance," he said with a smile, and I saw a light pink blush across his cheeks.

He did this all for me? No one had ever done anything like this for me before. We stood together like we did at the masquerade ball, and began to dance slowly. Only this time, it felt much more real and intimate than before.

His hands were warm and fit with mine perfectly, our feet moving as if we were born to dance together. All I could think about was how lucky I was to be loved by a man that I loved just as much in return.

We stared at each other, and I relaxed in his arms. His eyes were so calming, his touch gentle, and his smile soft and loving. Arthur leaned down slowly and our eyes closed, lips meeting halfway. He pulled me closer, if that was possible, his arms wrapping around my waist. One of my hands rested on his chest, the other up playing with his hair.

After a few minutes we pulled back, him giving me small pecks all around my face and making me giggle. He grinned down at me.

"Thank you for this, Arthur," I said quietly, working hard to push back that dreaded feeling again.

I think he could tell that I wasn't thinking right or feeling like myself or something, because he pulled me close and hugged me with his chin resting on the top of my head. We rocked back and forth slowly, and I closed my eyes tightly, taking a shaky breath.

"I love you," he mumbled, giving me a kiss on my head. "And I promise, one day, I will ask you to become my queen."

I sighed, knowing that 'one day' was possibly very, very far in the future. But I looked up at him and answered just the same, speaking nothing but the truth. "And I will say yes."
