Ella Baker was just an ordinary tenth-grade girl. She attended Lincoln High, had almost perfect attendence, and a few close friends. She even had a best friend, Macky, whose real name was Mackenzie. That name was despised by Macky, Ella, and their group of friends. Ella was ordinary height with ordinary brown hair and ordinary hazel eyes. She wore ordinary clothes and ordinary tennis shoes. She was just ordinary.

Macky, on the other hand, was not-so-ordinary. She was tall and had (natural) dirty blonde hair, which was dyed jet black with bright purple ombre at the moment. You never could tell when she would change it. Her eyes changed color with the seasons- ice blue in winter, light green during spring, light yellow-orange with summer, and chocolate brown with a reddish accent for fall. No one, except Macky and her family, knew whether they were natural or just contacts. She always wore clothes that matched her hair- black and purple would mean dark, gothic clothes.

Ella loved Macky's unique-ness as soon as she met her when she moved from Texas. Macky had lived here all her life, but didnt turn her cheek when Ella aproached, like all of the other students. Ella met all of Macky's friends, who all love Macky like a sister. There's Pippa, Zoey, Ann, and Laur. And Macky's boyfriend, Danny. Macky and her friends made Ella feel welcome from the start, but no one else did.

Ella became very insecure, and the bullying started. It started as just teasing people about their own insecurities every once in a while, when she was at her gloomiest. Then it became a daily thing to boost her spirits. Like coffee or an energy drink for anyone else, Ella depended on bullying to get through her day. She got her pleasure from their pain.

Ella didn't tell anyone about this, not her parents, not Macky, not even her teachers or the school counselor. The only ones who knew about it were Ella and her victims, whom she frightened to silence.

This continued on for the majority of the year until April 17th, the day after her 16th birthday. The day before, her parents brought her to her favorite antique shop, Miss Angela's, but there was a different lady there.

"I thought you might stop by!" the new lady exclaimed. Ella looked at her parents, confused.

"We called ahead to tell Miss Angela, like usual, but she wasn't here, so we left a message." her mom explained.

"Where's Miss Angela?" Ella asked.

"She's... taken the week off." said the new lady with a guilty gleam in her eye. "Come in the back, she left a present for you!" The guilty gleam was replaced with a normal, guilt-free sparkle as she flipped her long, stick straight, dark brown hair over her shoulder and strode away on her spidery long legs.

I must have imagined it, thought Ella. She followed the new lady into the back, her parents trailing behind her. The new lady turned and snapped at her that her parents couldn't come, so Ella looked at them questioningly. They shrugged and shooed her on.

As Ella passed a closed closet that was usually open, she heard a thump and the new lady rapped once on the door. The thumping stopped and the lady glanced over her shoulder to see if Ella had noticed.

I'm just imagining things. Miss Angela isnt locked in the closet and this lady didnt do anything, Ella said firmly to herself. When she reached the back, Dusty, the store's grey cat, didn't come up to Ella purring like a machine as he had always done.

Okay, somethings up, Ella decided. "Where's Dusty?" she asked.

"I haven't seen her all this week. Maybe Miss Angela took her on her... trip." The new lady said hesitantly.

That thumping in the closet... that must have been sweet old Dusty batting at the door! And Dusty isnt a girl... Miss Angela would have gone on and on to this lady about what a sweet boy he is! That is, if she'd had the chance... Ella thought. She decided she couldn't let the new lady know what was going through her mind, so she just shrugged and said, "Yeah, I guess so."

The new lady hunted around on Miss Angela's desk for a few seconds and then picked up a parcel wrapped in... a brown paper bag?! Miss Angela would NEVER wrap anything in brown, and she only keeps paper on her desk! The presents and parcels go in the drawers! Ella's mind whizzed. What if this lady plants a bug on her to find out where she lives and kill everyone? What if she already murdered Miss Angela?! What if-

"Dear, are you okay?" the new lady cooed at Ella, who must have had a concerned look on her face.

"Yes, I'm fine, thank you." She mentally shook herself. Just take whatever this lady's got and get out, she told herself. The new lady handed her the parcel. It was about the size, shape, and weight of a rock, but why would Miss Angela leave an insignificant little rock for her?

Suspicious, Ella took the package, thanked the lady, and walked back out to her impatient parents. She led her mom and dad out while they called their thanks to the lady they called Lindsey.

Ella opened her "present from Miss Angela" in the car and was suprised to find not a rock but a beautiful geode. It was electric blue and sparkled brilliantly in the light. Ella was entranced by it and decided to put it on her bedside table, forgetting all about Miss Angela, Dusty, and the mysterious new lady called Lindsey.
