The Dead and Damned
Chapter 2
The car idles on for a while, nothing but lots of grass and trees and cows and - holy shit, was that a cow being eaten? Oh my god a zombie was eating a cow. A ZOMBIE. EATING A COW. That's like eating raw hamburger. Gross. I make a face at the idea, turning away from the window, and sighing, loudly, to get Sam's attention.
"What now Sophie?" he groans, his eyes kept on the road.
"Can we stop? Pleaseeeeee? I need to pee." I whine, squirming around in my seat. I glance back at Mackenzie, who was playing with her dolls and completely oblivious to everything. Sam rolls his eyes.
"Fine. We'll make a quick stop. But if you pee anywhere on my seat before we get there I will cut off your hair and feed it to you." Sam grumbles, shifting the steering wheel into a small clearing off the side of the road. I stumble out of the car, tying my glossy golden hair - woops was that too dramatic? - up into a bun ((typical, but hey, I had no other hairbands!)) and pushing past a shrub. (Insert awkward peeing scene here). As soon as I was finished, I stepped back into the clearing, where Sam and Mack were playing with her dolls as she giggled. Oh woah is Sam smiling? That's a first.
Suddenly, something rustles behind me, and I whip around (yes whip. oooooo that reminds me of whipped cream. sorry. ill get back on track now. the thought train is ready to board. chOO CHOO. sorry). The bushes behind us were swaying, as if something - or someone - was struggling to get through. I grab Mackenzie, pulling her behind me as Sam stands in front of us, his rifle aimed and ready. Whatever was rustling the bushes pops out, scaring the shit out of all of us and causing Sam to fire. Except, he lost his aim, and managed to shoot the someone - or something - straight in the fucking shoulder. Ok, wait, it's a someone.
"OW WHAT THE FUCK!" he yells, falling back into the bushes.
"Sam, that person was living." I say stupidly. Sam shoots me a look, starting over to the bushes. I follow behind, peeking over Sam's shoulder cautiously. A boy that looks around my age holds his shoulder, glaring up at us with these - holy shit holy shit they're beAUTIFUL - green eyes as he ruffles his - GOD WHY IS EVERY PART OF THIS BOY BEAUTIFUL - dark brown curls out of his face. His lips are pursed and a light pink and I'm suddenly overwhelmed at how much I want to kiss him. W h a t?
"Oi, why'd ya shoot me?" he growls, drawing my attention to his gravelly accent and sweet baby jesus his voice is great. Sam rolls his eyes, starting to walk away and ignore this gorgeous boy/god/totally attractive being i don't think is real, leaving me to open and close my mouth idiotically while thinking of something to say. The boy seems to forget his pain momentarily, an amused look growing on his face.
"I'm Sophie." I get out - finally - and smiling. The boy stands up, still gripping his shoulder as he introduces himself.
" 'M Harry. And that guy hiding in the bushes behind me is Zayn. Oi! Zayn! Get up you lousy coward." the boy - Harry - yells over his shoulder. Zayn, I presume, stands up, brushing leaves off his pants and - holy fuck he's gorgeous too. A smile flashes across his caramel skin, adding flare to the stubble surrounding his mouth. His obsidian hair is shaggy, but he pulls it off VERY well. I make a weird noise only loud enough for me to hear that is completely inhuman. Zayn waves, stepping through the bushes to stand by Harry.
" 'S nice to meet ya." Zayn says, and jesus of coURSE he has a british accent too. I smile, turning my attention back to Harry, whose fingers are now covered in a scarlet shade of blood.
"Oh, um, we should get that cleaned up." I say. Goodness my brain hates me when I'm near attractive people. Harry grins, and - oh god, oh god, are those dimples? holy shit they're so cute he's so cute oh my god ohmygodohmygodohmygo - nods, but casts a nervous glance to my brother, who, unsurprisingly, is still clutching the rifle and glaring at us.
