It was a dark and stormy night.
Well, not exactly.
It was night, but the stars shone bright, not a cloud could be seen.
Or
It was a Halloween night. The kids were sleeping and playing after a night of celebrating and candy. But the night was not going to have a good ending.
Specifically the family that lived in a house at Godric's Hallow. There were two parents, Lily and James Potter, who were playing with their two one year old twins, Harry and Percy Potter.
James was technically not their biological father. The twins wouldn't see their father until they start going to a summer camp in America, but at that moment, they didn't have a care in the world.
If only that could last.
Because at that moment, as the family was laughing and playing in their home, a dark wizard was making his way to their home, with the intention to kill.
Percy was sitting on the couch next to Harry, both trying to grab their stepfather's fingers.
Percy looked up when he heard a sound. It sounded like footsteps. He looked at Harry, who seemed to hear it too.
All of a sudden, the door flew off the hinges with a big bang!
The twins looked at the now empty doorway. There was a man all dressed in black. He was holding one of those stick things that Percy sometimes saw their parents carry.
Was that really necessary? Percy asked Harry in baby language through his magical twin link thing with Harry.
Like you're one to talk. You turned broccoli into a magical firework because you didn't want to eat it, he heard Harry reply. Percy pouted.
Lily snatched them up.
"Hurry!" James yelled. "Take them upstairs! I'll hold him off!"
Lily carried Percy and his twin upstairs.
She locked the door and put the two boys in the crib.
Thud.
What was that? Percy asked Harry through the twin link.
It sounded like someone falling, Harry replied.
The door flew off it's hinges.
What does he have against doors? Percy asked Harry as the man from earlier walked into the room.
I don't know, Harry replied.
He made his way towards them. Lily stepped in between the man and the twins.
"Move out of the way, you silly girl," the man warned.
"No, not my kids! Not Harry, not Percy, please not them!" Lily screamed.
"I said step aside!" The man said louder.
"No, not Percy, no not Harry, please no! Take me instead!" She screamed.
"So be it," the man sneered. He raised his stick and pointed it at her. A green light zapped her as he said the words, "Avada Kedavra!"
And he turned to the twins. He pointed his stick towards Percy, then to Harry. He looked confused.
He pointed it at Harry, then at Percy, then back at Harry, then at Percy.
Harry and Percy looked at each other, then back at him.
Then the man pointed it at Harry.
Then at Percy again.
His eyes widened as he felt the power flowing off of them in waves. He knew then that they were more powerful than himself. They needed to die, in the man's opinion.
He said the words that he had said to their mom twice and two beams of light flew at them, one at Harry, and one at Percy.
As it was heading towards them, Harry and Percy were having a mental conversation.
Harry, Percy thought.
Yeah, Percy?
Is our mommy dead?
They both looked at their mom.
I think so.
The two twins got angry. This man had killed their mom, and probably their father too. They knew that their parents had loved them. They had loved them back.
And now, that love for their family came to their aid.
Their dead parents' final moments had been filled with love and sacrifice for Percy and Harry.
That gave them protection.
But the twins' love for their family now made them mad. No one messes with their family!
Now, no one wants to make two twins angry. Especially these two twins.
Their parents' love and sacrifice gave them protection. The kids' anger and love for their parents gave them the power to overthrow, to live, to survive.
The spell rebounded that night. The spell that was supposed to kill the protected twins was thrown back onto the person who casted it. All the kids got was one lightning shaped scar each.
The man didn't die, but he became to weak to do anything other than survive. He was slightly more than a ghost.
And the twins? They went to sleep.
