Starkid Meeting
Physio had been brutal the past few weeks and there was nothing to distract me from it. Lauren and Jaime had been having a lot of meetings with the rest of Starkid, and I was often left at home by myself. The few people I did know were in Starkid, so there weren't many people I could actually hang out with when everyone else was busy. I was by myself, doing exercises for my leg at home and watching a lot of TV.
"Oi, stink face," Lauren's voice called out from the kitchen. "There's another Starkid meeting. Wanna come?"
"Uh, why would I come?" I called back. "I'm not a Starkid."
"Because Joe or Joey or someone has something he wants to say and he wants you there, apparently. I can't remember who said it."
That was confusing. I had no clue what anyone from Starkid could have to say about me. "Alright then. Yeah, sure, okay."
I quickly changed into jeans instead of leggings and clasped the boot over my leg. I grabbed my crutches, slid my phone into my back pocket and joined Lauren and Jaime in the car.
"I'm still confused as to why I'm coming, if I'm honest." I said as I slid into the passenger seat.
"So are we, but whoever it was didn't say anything else. Don't worry about it, Maia. It's probably something stupid, knowing Joe and Joey." Jaime smiled at me from the driver's seat.
"They probably just want to see you again. Apparently you really impressed them both in the times that you guys have hung out." Lauren glanced at me through the rearview mirror.
"Oh, shut up, Lauren. You know I don't want Joe, and that I'd never take him from you. And Joey is just a friend. I don't want a boyfriend."
At the cafe, Starkids that I had met and ones I hadn't were all sitting around a massive table. Joe and Joey were sitting next to each other, with Jeff and Rachael sitting a few seats down. Lauren, Jaime and I all sat down, with a waiter asking us what drinks we wanted. After ordering, one of the guys sitting in middle called out for everyone to be quiet and listen to him.
"Alright, welcome to the official meeting about the next ... wait for it ... Starkid tour!"
Everyone at the table screamed, clapped and shouted. Obviously tours were a big thing for them. I clapped politely as the roar softened.
"Alright, alright, everyone shut it. Now, we're going to need to organise a setlist, who'll sing what, who will actually go, and someone needs to message Darren's agent."
I had no clue who Darren was, or anything else that they were talking about, so I stopped paying attention. Until I heard my name.
"Maia should totally come. She's not doing anything at the moment, she's heaps of fun, and she'd totally be a stress reliever." That was Lauren. "In a totally non-sexual way," she added quickly. Of course she would see the innuendo in 'stress reliever'.
"Lauren's right," Joe said. Hmm, so maybe it was Joe who wanted me to come. "Maia is totally fun, she'd be great to hang out with after a performance to chill."
"Whoa, whoa, guys, I still have my physio appointments. And as soon as they're done, I've got another meeting for soccer."
"Maia, we need you." Dylan chimed in too. "AJ is our only pianist and Maia, you're totally rocking at the piano. You could be our backup pianist."
"Wait, actually?" The guy from the beginning sounded shocked and interested. "Maia, if you can play the piano you have to come! We need a spare, really. We'd love for you to come. And it sounds like you'd be fun to have around. We'll all get stressed so we need at least one person who's chill."
"Look, the offer is nice and all but I'd really need to think about it. Let me weigh up my options."
The guy nodded before returning back to the other points he needed to address in the meeting.
The idea that Starkid wanted me to go on tour with them almost seemed ridiculous. Sure, people seemed to think I was fun but is that really a good enough reason to invite me? I certainly didn't think so. But then again, what else would I be doing whilst they went on tour? I didn't have any other friends and I'd still be going to physio, so I wouldn't be playing soccer. In actuality, going on the tour would be the most entertaining thing to do. Certainly, going to a concert nearly every night and being surrounded by a bunch of hilarious people would be amazing.
