Alyssa P.O.V. ------------------
I turn my head to look at Uriah once more as I jump, and faceplant into the grass.
"Dammit" I say angrily, brushing myself off. I turn around to see him laughing as the train speeds away. I check my phone and run to the school, making sure I'm not late for testing.
I walk inside and am immediately hugged by my boyfriend, Alexander.
"Hey baby," he smiles at me and kisses my cheek, "what took you so long?"
"I had to take the train." I shrug. He takes my hand and guides me over to the table with the rest of our friends.
"So, are any of you guys leaving?" Veronica, my best friend, asks happily.
"I'm staying." Alex says bluntly, "Who would want to leave?"
"Oh please, I'm leaving, Dauntless, it's my destiny." Vee says smirking.
"Of course Veronica, the mighty Vee was never made for Amity." I tease.
"What about you Al? You staying or are you leaving?" Veronica asks, and Alex grips my hand tightly.
"She's staying, we've talked about it." He says, matter-of-factly.
"Since when can Alyssa not answer for herself Alex?" Vee says angrily.
"Actually, I've been thinking, and maybe going into Dauntless is what's really best for me." I pipe up, and Alex drops my hand.
"Are you kidding me!" He says angrily. "We've been together for a year, and just one day, out of the blue, you're leaving? You didn't even tell me Alyssa"
"Alex, it just happened today, kind of an epiphany I guess," I say helplessly.
"Please, you'll never survive over there." He retorts.
"How would you know? You dont know me Alex," I say through gritted teeth.
"Fine, whatever. Stay or leave, but if you go, we're through." Alex says, shooting daggers. I sigh and slump down in my chair.
"So, who wants to go get cake after school?" Vee asks, trying to lighten the mood. I smile softly, Vee had always been that girl, the funny, brave one everyone loved.
"Not the time," Alex says, almost a whisper. My head drops sadly. Had I caused all this pain?
"Alyssa." I can hear my name called, and honestly, it was a relief. I get up amd walk over, happy to be away from the awkwardness. I see the room I got into and walk in. Then I see him.
"Why hello beautiful." Uriah says, smirking.
"What are you doing here?!" I say, grinning.
"I administer the test, and I pulled some strings to get you into my room." He smiles. "Now, go sit down." I walk over reluctantly and sit down, nervous. What if I didn't get Dauntless?
"So, you seemed to be having a pretty heated discussion out there..." Uriah says, slightly nervous, putting liquid into a vial.
"Yeah, my..." I trail off, I dont know what to call him. "Well, his name is Alex." I look down.
"So is Alex your boyfriend?" He asks, a tinge of jealousy in his voice. I watch as he prepares the needle.
"If I stay in Amity he is..." I say, letting the frustration seep into voice.
"It looks like you have a choice to make." He smiles, "You ready?" I shake my head.
"What if I don't get Dauntless, or Amity?" I ask quietly.
"I believe in you. Be brave," He brushes my hair away from my neck and injects the blue liquid. I wince and then sleep engulfs me.
I wake up and see a table with a knife and cheese on it.
"Choose." I hear a voice say.
"Why?" I ask, wondering what they wanted me to do.
"Choose." The voice repeats itself.
"I want them both," I reach forward and grab both. Next thing I know, they both disappear, and a dog comes towards me. The dog bares it's teeth and runs towards me. I step back, scared. I hear Uriah's words in the back of my head. Be brave. I take a deep breath and step forward, bowing down to the dog. I close my eyes, waiting for the pain. Instead I hear whimpering. I look up to see the dog turn into a puppy.
"Hey buddy." I giggle and pet the puppy lightly.
"Puppy!" I turn around to see a girl running towards us. She looked like me when I was younger.
"Wait!" I exclaim, but it's to late. The dog was running after her, back into the wolf like creature it was before. I sprint after it. I had to save her. I tackle the dog to the ground. Then everything changes again. This time I'm on a train, and there's a factionless man in front of me.
"Do you know this man?" He asks, holding up a paper. The man looked familiar, but I couldn't quite place him.
"I've seen him before," I say honestly, "But I don't believe it would be wise to tell you." I say, turning and jumping off the train.
I jolt up in the chair. I lean forward, panting. I take my hair down and run my hands through it. I see Uriah standing at his computer. I get up to walk towards him, but he looks up.
"So," I say grinning, "What'd I get."
"Dauntless," He says, smiling, "and Erudite, Abnegation, Amity, and Candor."
My smile falters. "How?" I ask, not sure what to say.
"You're called Divergent, that means you don't just fit into one faction." He says, grimacing slightly.
"Then what do I choose? This was supposed to tell me what to do...." I shake my head, running my hands through my hair.
"Hey, it's okay." He walks over to me and brushes the hair from my face. "Just follow your heart, it'll tell you what to do." He smiles and leans down slowly. I stand up on my toes and meet him, kissing him softly. The world seems to stop for a moment as we kiss. Everything seemed to be okay. I pull away for air and play with his hair.
"You mister, have work to do." I giggle, pointing at him. I grab a pen off of his table and grab his hand.
"That's my number, video call me tonight. I'll see you tomorrow" I kiss his cheek and walk out. Am I sure this is what I want? No. Am I gonna do it anyway, HELL YES!
- Thanks guys again for being supportive, I'm going to keep writing. The next chapter will be the night after she gets home, and the choosing ceremony. Don't forget to star!
