Part 4: Blossoming?

Willow pulled her jacket on and slipped on her sneakers. As much as she wanted to object to going to a campfire to see a bunch of people she didn't remember, she knew that it's what her dad would have wanted so she sighed and just went with it. She pulled her long red curls back into a braid as her mom walked into the living room.
"I'm really happy that your going". She beamed with a smile. Willow nodded her head and put her hands in her jacket.
"Yeah..." She faked a smile. Carol put in her boots and opened the door.
"Are you sure your going to be warm enough?" She asked Willow.
"It gets pretty cold in Seattle at night". Willow rolled her eyes and stepped towards the door. Then she opened it.
"I'm fine. I've handled colder weather then this remember hmmmm? I've been to Colorado in the winter". Willow informed her mom walking out the door. Carol sighed and ushered out after her.
    "Willow I-" She hesitated.
     "Yeah....". Carol shook her head.
"Never mind. Let's have a good time tonight k?" Willow nodded her head. Then they both walked to the neighbor's house. As they got closer to the fire Carol waved to a man sitting in a green chair. The large man with a small black beard stood up and  went over to greet them.
"Hey Carol. Great weather for a fire am I right? Hey who's this pretty lady?" He asked. Willow flashed a small smile at his jacket. It was the same one her dad had in his closet. He would wear it every time that they would go snowboarding. She brought out her hand and the man shook it.
"Chad this is my daughter Willow". She introduced. Willow smiled. "Willow this is Chad Maxson. He was the one that gave you your first bike". She informed her. Willow shook her head.
"I remember that bike. Thank you". She replied. Chad nodded his head. Then put a hand on his hip.
"Blue streamers and all. It was so cool. Every kid on the block was jealous. It was every gals dream bike". He added. Willow let out a small chuckle.
"Yeah for ten year olds". Willow stated crossing her arms over her chest. Chad let out a large laugh and Carol started to laugh too.
"Oh Carol". He chuckled. "You got yourself one hell of a daughter". Carol glanced over at Willow and smiled. Willow looked away.
    "Yeah I sure do".

Throughout the night Willow started to feel a bit better. These people were open and outgoing. Much like her dad which she liked. One of the other guys there, Arthur talked about his ex wife and how she threw him out. That made Willow laugh. His wife sounded like a real catch. Then there was this other guy, Trevor. He went on and on about his many adventures in trying to get a girlfriend. She did feel a bit bad for him though. He seemed like a sweet guy. While for something who was in there early thirties.
As the night wrapped up Willow stepped away from the group and found a good patch of grass to sit down in and think. She pulled her jacket closer and looked up at the stars. They were so pretty this time of night.
"Not even these guys will remain the same forever". She whispered to herself. She shook her head. Deep down she wanted to forgive her mom for leaving because it was over and done with. And yet she couldn't! She needed answers to why her mom had left! And to why she had never tried to contact her? She was her daughter after all! Why didn't she care enough to call or even send a letter?
"Stop it!". She said. She had to try to get to the bottom of this. For her fathers sake and for her own.
