Getting ready to leave, hoping to be undiscovered, unheard, and unseen, trudging into the school with my head down and my hood up to avoid getting noticed. Dreading someone stopping me to inform me to remove it, I glance around pulling it down revealing my hair in a small bun. I would rather not start the school year off as a 'bad' pupil. I stay unrecognized, it's better to hold an insignificant profile. As I turn the corner searching for my locker, I consider to myself, "this will be a lengthy year". Before I open my locker, a few older guys rush down the hallway, their thundering voices echoing in the packed hallways. Nearly hitting the ground arms wraps my body stopping the crash. Bright hazel eyes peer into mine as a modest smile appears. "Do you have a map? Because I've become lost in your eyes, " I smirk and blush.
"Hey my name is Hunter and you are?"
"A-Ashlee" I stutter
I peer anxiously around as eyes narrow in on us as he grips me, eventually letting go I stand up straight and glance around "s-sorry I'm just a clumsy wreck"
"No, don't fret about it. You are like a little bunny, it's adorable" His voice is fearless and firm, yet still delicate. "I'll see you around Lil bunny " he strolls away smiling at me. I drag myself to the first period as the other mindless zombies called my peers. First period each second ticked slowly making it tough to concentrate on the

After going over, a lengthy list of senseless rules to control this school term from being any different from last year in grammar school. Seconds and minutes tick by, the bell rings at 10:30 signaling second period. I see hunter sitting in the middle row in the far back so I go sit near there. The instructor walks in dressed up in a vintage 1950s wine and black swing dress with her hair is a short 50s styled pixie. "Good morning class today we are grouping up in pairs to get to identify each other. Everyone picks your partners, learn about this person, and by next week, we should have everyone knowing at least someone in this large school." Hunter looks over at me and smiles turning to a desk closer to me. "Partners? I'd like to get to know you and be companions in this... Large school" he teases the teacher making me giggle as I nod "let's start by asking a simple question want to be friends? It'd be nice to have someone to talk to throughout the school year. "

"Yes, I would appreciate having a friend." I smile, blushing a bit. That class period went quickly as we chatted and laughed. The bell rings for lunch as Hunter and I walk out of the classroom. The week comes and goes as we learn more about each other. Throughout the school year he begins talking to another girl. I have developed a crush on him through our friendship, I had to pretend to like her even though I was jealous of him having feelings for her over me. One specific day during lunch we planned on meeting in our normal place in the gardens open every day filled with student art and surrounded in flowers. There was a beautiful gazebo, in the middle he and I would eat our lunches there. He didn't show up so I sat there all of the lunch alone in silence waiting for him before the bell when off signaling the next class I wandered into the cafeteria to throw my half-eaten food away, I noticed him with a girl, Mia, a stunning sight wanted by all guys and his crush. He and her sitting together and laughing and eating like we used to. I quickly force myself to get over it and act as if it didn't bother me at all. By the end of the school I helped him ask her out and she said yes. That last week of school I stayed distant noticing he had changed still unable to watch them kiss feeling hurt and always putting up an act so no one knows. The last day of school we meet at lunch but only for a few minutes having six out of the eight classes I had with him it was hard to keep my distance from our friendship. I would say nothing that could make him realize how much it hurts me. Before getting onto the bus I looked at him and only said "goodbye hunter" he looked hurt. Like everything had just changed for the worst between us and there was no going back to what we had as friends.
