Months passed before my dad finally decided to show up. While he was gone nothing of importance happened I just woke up for school everyday and daydreamed of me being old enough to live on my own during class. The third day he was back, the punching and bruising me bony body returned worse than it was before, he probably wanted to make up for what he missed out on. At one point he came home smelling of alcohol and cigarettes. Drunk, he pushed me down and into the countertops of our kitchen. My head cracked against the granite, my neck pooped. A warm trickle ran down the back of my neck and soaked into my shirt. Ringing intruded my eardrums. Suddenly, a hairy clenched fist came across my jaw causing my teeth to grind. A metallic taste of blood danced across my taste buds.
All I could see was red, then it grew darker and darker, finally transforming into black. I don't know what he did to my unconscious body after that. Judging by the bruises on my side where rib cage rests, he most likely kicked me repeatedly.
I awoke on the tile floor of my kitchen under the counter my head had recently made contact with. I stood, body ached from sleeping on the cold hard floor all night. Oh, and being kicked and punched. Examining the granite countertop I noticed dried blood smears. My fingers ran over the streaks of my bodily fluid. The memory of what happened in order for those to be there came rushing back to me.
A shaky hand found its way wandering up to the nape of my neck following the trail of pain to the big gash on the back of my head. The deep cut measured in my imagination to be three inches wide. Blood still leaked from the hole in my skin. Stitches were needed, but I would never get them, time would heal the cut only leaving behind a twisted scar.
