I stare at the dark ceiling and sigh. Eleven minutes. That's how long I've slept all night, and now I can see the sun peaking over the horizon in the distance through my window. As bad as I wanted to escape into my dream realm, my mind would not stop straying to this mysterious person. I wasn't even nervous, I was actually really anxious. I feel like a child on Christmas Eve, dying to know what's inside of the presents Santa left them under the tree. I shift my body, so that my stomach connects with the mattress, and snuggle into my pillow. My thoughts run back over my conversation with Rome. I read it so many times, I had it memorized. A smile drew itself on my face and I felt my body relax, finally bringing me to my safe place.
Walking through Central Park, I take in all of the afternoon delights. Children playing with each other on the swing sets, while their parents watch and mingle from a safe distance, pet owners taking their animals out to play, and couples walking around, just enjoying each other's company. It's been a while since I've seen so much happiness all at one time. It was beautiful how so many different people could co-exist; minding their own business, not worrying about the next person, but at the same time respecting each other for who they are. I smiled to myself and deeply breathed in the autumn air, as made my way towards an empty bench near an Oak tree. I passed by two men who were hand in hand, fingers intertwined. They smiled at me and I faintly returned the gesture. I sat on the bench and checked my phone. It was 5 minutes after our scheduled meeting time. I shrugged, then studied the couple for a few more minutes, watching how nobody gave them rude looks, or made smart comments about their relationship. Maybe one day, I'll have what they have and I could truly be happy. I was knocked out of my thoughts by the vibration of my phone.
Rome: Are you here?
I smiled and replied with my location.
A few moments passed before I heard a familiar voice behind me that made my eyes widen.
"Moonwalker?" he said, giggling.
I turned slowly turned around, only to have my face connected with a fist. I flew off of the bench and landed on my side, closer to the tree. He walked closer to me, and I looked into his face, not believing what just happened.
"Say something, Moonwalker. Isn't that what you call yourself? Stupid ass bitch!" he laughed through his words.
I can't believe this, I got played. I believed every word he said to me yesterday, and here I am being humiliated. I look back to the rest of the park and nobody seems to notice me. I wanted to scream for help, but my brain couldn't function properly enough to send the signals for the mouth to move, which is why I didn't scream when I felt him slap the other side of my face.
"I said say something you stupid little bitch!" he screamed, anger in his eyes. He grabbed me by my shoulders and pinned me on the tree. I looked down at the ground, ashamed.
"You thought someone would actually care about you? How fucking dumb can you be? Nobody cares! The only reason why we even still need you is because your replacement hasn't signed the contract yet!" he screamed in my face.
I shook my head, trying not to let the tears fall. I won't give him satisfaction of seeing me cry. I looked up to see a smirk on his face.
"Yo, Prince come here and handle this bitch," he called out.
Princeton walked out from behind the tree with his hand behind his back.
"Ray, you wanna take our dog for a walk?" Prince said as he slowly approached me.
