Okay, so let's get one thing straight. I, by no definition, believe in anything but science. I do not believe in voodoo, I do not believe in witchcraft, I do not believe in fortune telling, or even God. Even though I do not believe in any of these things, I won't walk up to a person who believes they can do witchcraft and tell them that they are an imposture. I would just simply nod and walk away.

So when a light came on in the tent, and there, in the middle of the tent sat a woman (who wore a black robe), I had to believe that someone was playing a trick on me. No way, was there a woman when I entered the tent and no way was there a table. The tent is simply not big enough for it.

But when a small light came on in the tent, the room seemed to expand, and a person appear out of, what seemed like thin air. "Welcome." Said the person. "Come, sit." I knew that voice, but couldn't place it.

Cautiously, I approach the table and sat. I am only doing this because I think I might (a big might) learn something new.

"I wondered how long it would take you until you came to me for answers." The woman pushed back her hood. "Hello, child." Miss Lillie smiled at me and reached for my hands.

"Miss Lillie. You're the fortune teller?" I asked, shocked, pulling my hands away from her.

"Well, yeah, child, but the correct term would be Fate. I am a Fate."

"The difference?" I asked.

"A fortune teller 'predicts' the outcome to your life by your reaction to the questions they ask you. Whereas, Fates actually can see into your future. We are the real deal. We do not need any information about our subjects to predict their future." She smiled at me.

"I still don't believe in it, no matter how you state your facts." I folded my hands in front of my chest.

"That is completely understandable, child. You can go if you would like. I will not force you to do this if you do not want to do this." Miss Lillie gestured towards the front of the tent. "Or we can continue and see what your future holds for you."

"Yeah, yeah. Let's just get on with this."

"Alright." Miss Lillie smiled and gestured for my hands. "Before we begin, I have to give you a little discretion. Each one of us, from the day we are born to before we die, are blessed with different paths in our lives in which we can take. Depending on which path we take, our outcome to our future will vary. Sometimes, though, there are those who can take a different path and still end up with the same outcome as if they had taken the other path presented to them. We just need to-" Miss Lillie stopped talking when I yawned. "Well, you get the idea. Shall we start?"

"Yes please. The sooner this ends, the sooner I can go home." I replied.

"Okay. We will first start with some information about your past." Miss Lillie closed her eyes and took a deep breath. I jumped when she opened her eyes again; they were a cloudy color. "My dear child, I can tell that you have witnessed a terrible accident when you were six: the murder of your parents. What you do not know, though, is that your parents' death was not an accident. They knew that your life was in danger, so they made a deal with an evil force in order to save your life. Two lives in exchange for one."

My heart started to speed up. That is what Zaphara had told me and I thought she was crazy. Now I am starting to think that maybe she knew what she was talking about.

"That mark on your left arm? The one that you think is a birthmark? It's a contract. The one who had your parents killed? That is his signature. He has one just like it on his left arm. That mark binds you to him. He is sworn to protect you to the end of your life." Miss Lillie paused and looked at me with her cloudy eyes. "Now, onto the most recent present and future.

"You have recently made contact with a stranger that gets under your skin. You can't stand him and yet you seem to feel some sort of magnetic pull towards him. You resent him, and yet he makes you curious. Even though you have just met, it seems like you have known him your entire life. Have you? Only you can answer that."

With each sentence she spoke, my heart would beat faster. Everything she has said so far has been true. It seemed weird that she would know all this stuff about me, when I barely know them myself.

"You, Charity Raven Hunter, will never have a normal life again. Ever since this stranger has made himself known to you, your life has been thrown down a different path. Now it is up to you to choose which path you want to go down.

"You will soon, be faced with a choice in which no one can help you. Only you can help yourself. You will be thrown in the middle of a battle between good and evil. You can choose to follow the path of good, in which you have known all your life; or you can choose to follow the path of evil, which has just been introduced into your life.

"In the very near future, you will be faced with an event that only this stranger can help you with. Now whether you choose to accept his help or not, it up to you.

"Heed this warning Raven Hunter, if you choose to continue to shut people out in your life, you will end up miserable and alone. So when an opportunity is thrown your way, catch it or your life will end in despair."

"I don't understand." I replied. "What opportunity?"

Miss Lillie gasped, then fell back in her chair. After a few seconds passed, she sat straight up. Her eyes were back to normal. "What was that dear?"

"What opportunity are you talking about?" I asked.

"Oh, dear." Miss Lillie laughed. "I am not allowed to tell you anything but what I have already said. The rest is up to you to figure out."

"But I don't understand. "I said, frustrated. I hate riddles and here, she just handed me a complex riddle of my life. "How am I supposed to understand my life better, if you just tell me bits and pieces of my future? Can't you at least give me a little hint? Tell me what I am supposed to do."

Miss Lillie got out of her chair and walked behind me. Pulling my chair away from the table, she offered me her hand. "My sweet child, only you can tell yourself what to do, for only you know you better that I know you." She walked me to the exit of the tent; which was in the back of the tent.

"You know, "I said to Miss Lillie, "I hope you don't believe that I believed a single word you said for a second."

Smiling, Miss Lillie nodded. "Of course dear. Even if you did, all my predictions of my subjects stay between me and the subject. Now whether or not they tell others is all up to them, but I do not disclose any information they are told to anyone."

"Well, I appreciate that." Miss Lillie opens the curtain for me and I step outside to the hot and humid air. "I'll see you in school." I said, not turning around to look at Miss Lillie.

"Raven, one more thing," Miss Lillie yelled out after me. "Even the Darkness will crave the Light."
