                                  Chapter 1

My name is Michael Isaac Clark or M.I.C. for short. I was born on a hot summer day in August, 1948, in the heart of New York City. The bustling streets and towering buildings were a constant backdrop to my childhood.

My family wasn't rich, but we got by. My father owned a twenty-four-hour pizzeria/deli a few blocks from our apartment, and my mother worked as a nurse in one of the busiest hospitals in the city. The smell of fresh pizza dough and the sound of my mother's work shoes clicking on the linoleum floors became the familiar background noise of my early years.

My parents always knew they wanted three children, so in the summer of 1950, they tried again, and nine months later, my brother Tim was born. My sister Liz wouldn't be born until 1955. Despite the constant chaos of our small apartment, we were a close-knit family. My childhood wasn't much different from other kids, except my dad didn't have to go off to war like some of my friends' dads. I went to school every day, spent time with my friends after school, and got into trouble more times than I care to admit.But things changed two days after my sixteenth birthday on August 17th, 1964. That's when my parents sat me down and told me it was time for me to start working to help support the family. My father had been struggling to keep the doors of his pizzeria/deli open the last few years due to the war and competition from bigger companies. He figured, why not bring in new blood? So, he brought me in.I'd been working with my dad for the past five years, day in and day out, to support our family. The hours were long, and the work was tough, but I learned the ins and outs of the business quickly. I could make a pizza with my eyes closed and had a sixth sense for when a customer was about to complain. Two weeks after my eighteenth birthday I moved out my folks apartment and moved in with my friend James and his girlfriend Sarah a few blocks from my folks apartment and deli.
As the years passed, I watched as the city around us changed. The music got louder, the clothes got tighter, and the world seemed to move faster. It was the night of my twenty-first birthday when my life would change forever. As a surprise my friend James and his girlfriend Sarah managed to get us four tickets to Woodstock which I didn't know at the moment. The festival was still two months away.
I didn't get off work till 11pm that night James called at 8:30 that night and said Sarah and him had a surprise for my birthday and to get home soon as possible. I said I'd be there soon as possible. I closed up the deli that night because we didn't have a night clerk. As I was walking home, I took a shortcut through a nearby alley suddenly, I was pulled into the shadows by an unknown assailant. I was sure I was being mugged, but to my surprise, it was a woman. She was exquisitely beautiful, with long hair and piercing eyes. She had a hungry look in her eyes, and before I knew it, she had bitten me. I felt a sharp pain in my neck and then a sensation of warmth spreading throughout my body.I didn't know what was happening to me, but the woman pulled away and looked at me with a mixture of regret and curiosity. She explained that her name was Ava and that she was five thousand year old vampire and that she had been hunted to near death earlier that evening. That left her with only two options: drain me and go on with her eternity, or take what was needed and turn and mentor me. She chose the latter option. I looked at her stunned and perplexed, she said come with and naturally did as I was told. As traveled to what I could only assume was safe place I kept saying my friends and I have plans and all she would say back is, you are now one of the most deadly predators on the planet and you need to learn "how to be" she said to help you survive and blend in. How do you think I've lived so long, Ava said ? We suddenly stopped and Ava said we're here. Ava said as your sire you will follow all of my directions and rules. My rules are as follows
1. We only hunt evil doers
2. Never harm the innocent
       3. We only take what's  needed
                             4. Never leave a trace                                         

Now you must be hungry and I said yeah I could eat and ava just grinned. Remember my rules when I introduce you to this evenings dinner.
This is Jimmy "The Fish" Fonzorelli as he walked in the door my senses went into overdrive and I lunged at him like an animal and ava stopped me with little effort. Saying now now M.I.C. be polite he's our guest, as she turned on Jimmy with the persicion of an apex predator bearing her fangs and sinking them deeply into Jimmie neck and beckoning me forward lunged towards his nearest vain which was his right shoulder.
