An Unexpected Eternity : Reborn In The Dark

Chapter 2: Life Forever Changed

The night of my twenty first birthday August 15th, 1969 my life would change forever for more than one reason. My best buddy Jonny worked at the local radio station and somehow managed to get us tickets and a ride to Woodstock.

I'd moved outta my folks place last year but still worked with pops everyday. Jonny and I shared an apartment with his girlfriend Sarah about five blocks from pops shop so it was an easy commute to work and back home everyday. I got off work at eight that night, normally I'd ride my bike home but my bike had a flat so I had to walk, no big deal right ? It was a nice night, Jonny called before I closed up for the night and said Sarah and him had a surprise for my birthday and to hurry home.

I closed up as quickly as possible and headed home, on my way home I was pulled into an ally by what I thought at the time was a mugger, little did I know at the time it was no mugger but a thief of another kind.

I woke up the next night in a strange bed that wasn't my own. Hungry and in a panic not knowing where I was. Moments later the door to the room opened up and a voice from the shadows said relax I'm not going to hurt you, I attempted to rise up only to find out that I was chained to the bed, after a few moments of panic I opened my eyes and said what do you want then. The owner of the voice stepped into the light and said relax my name is Ava, and I'm a vampire. I just looked at her perplexed and said vampires don't exist she said believe what you will, but it's the truth now be quite and listen.

Now as I said my name is Ava and I'm a vampire, yesterday evening I pulled you into that ally and drained you of your blood. I just looked at her stunned, she continued on unfazed. I had no choice earlier that night a pair of well trained and well prepared hunters found my lair as it were, and nearly killed me, I barely escaped. I was in a dire state when I heard you walking down the street and when you got close I pulled you into the ally and fed on you. Now you have to understand I didn't want to kill you it's been many years since  I killed a human, and even longer since I turned one.

So I decided to turn you rather than kill you, and I knew that I couldn't just leave you out on the the streets not knowing what you were in the day light hours you'd either die or you'd kill innocent people to state your hunger not knowing what you were and I couldn't have that linger on my conscience.

I just looked at her stunned again and blinked twice and said the first thing that popped into my head which was, so where are we ? Ava said we are still in New York at one of my other safe houses. The next question I thought to ask was, what makes you think the hunters won't be able to find you here ? Ava said well this place isn't in any name I've ever used before so we are safe I assure you. Now I'm sure you're starving but there are some things you need to know first, one of the first things you need to know is you are a predator now your dangerous until you learn how to control your instincts and urges. what Ava said next would stick with me for awhile. You won't be seeing your family for quite some time, which caused me to go into a fit of rage and attempt to break free from my restraints. Ava relax and pressed a button on the wall to the right and with that I was released from my restraints now drink this and she tossed me a bag of blood and with that my instincts went into overdrive and I tore into the bag and vigorously drank it as fast as I could trying my best not to spill a drop.

Ava said, as I told you last night you are a predator by nature now here let me show you. Hannibal will you please come in here, yes ma'am. A man some years older than me entered the room and my instincts went into overdrive and all I saw and could focus on was blood, I lunged toward the man immediately my goal to state my unquenchable hunger. Ava intercepted me faster than I could have even perceived as possible at that time, she said enough I just wanted to show you your predatory nature. And how dangerous you are to those you love and that are no longer  apart of the mortal coil. Ava said Hannibal will you please leave us now, the man nodded and said yes ma'am and immediately left the room to another part of the house I could only assume.
