Chapter 5
The Clue
Matthew knew people didn't just dissapear. He had decided to go over to her house. She had given him countless cookies when he was younger, so he wanted to check it out for himself.
He slowly walked up to the house. Knock, knock, knock! "Mrs O'Leary! Are you there? No one answered. Knock, knock!
The door slowly opened as if someone was letting him in. Crrreeaakk! He looked inside, and there seemed to be nothing wrong.
Slowly and cautiously, Matt walked into the elderly woman's large house.
He first checked the kitchen. Nothing was wrong. then in the living room things all seemed normal, but as he walked up the long, wooden, creaky stairs, he saw the first thing out of place.
Matt walked into the computer room. laying on the desk was her usual old computer (It was suprising that it still ran). It was just sitting on the desk like nothing had happened, but the room was all trashed like a giant arm had swept across the floor.
Laying on the floor was a single strip of rubber. This was the kind that was on wires, not eraser rubber. This confused Matt. "It must be a clue!" he thought.
It wasn't much, but it was a start. A random piece of rubber in a pile of broken glass from the china cabinet Mrs. O'Leary had in the corner of the room.
