Shay and Pandora begin screaming and shouting, both running forward to the edge of the fog. Shay stops at the line but Pandora runs through it, heading for her mother. The Helwyr on the left of Cinder begins to snarl.
He runs forward and throws Pandora to her knees. Silent tears being to roll down her cheeks as she looks pleadingly up at her mother. Cinder stares at her daughter, her face unchanging, no sign of any emotion at all.
The Helwyr produces a small knife from its belt and crouches down to Pandora. He plunges the knife into her chest and she falls to the ground, crying out in pain. She goes slient and still as the Helwyr pulls the knife from her heart.
Pandora's body disintegrates to ash and Shay crumples to the ground. Her death was a warning, this is what will happen to us.
Shay gets up, looking ready to kill Cinder or the Helwyr.
"You bitch. Our daughter is dead. You are the reason our daughter is dead. You just stood there and watched." He tries to shout but is voice is breaking. Cinder's head tilts and she flashes him a sickly sweet smile.
"It is for the greater good my darling. This must happen. All Helwyr must die. Surely you must see that."
As she finishes talking. Shay goes to run forward. Someone needs to stop him. I will something to happen and he comes flying backwards through the air. I look around to see who did that but they are all staring at me. Thats impossible, nobody can control more than one element.
"Radley, get him out of here. Somewhere safe." I order and he walks to Shay, grabbing his arm. They both dissappear into the lightning. "Jackson, Jaq and everyone else. Go into the house and get every weapon there is. We are going to need them."
I have no idea where my sudden authority is coming from but everyone is going with it. Maybe it is something to do with being the supposed Gwaredwr. Does it give me a natural battle ability or something? I am ready to fight but before that, there is a traitor that needs to be dealt with.
I walk to the red fog and begin pacing around the edge, just to make sure I have their full attention. The Helwyr that killed Pandora comes forward so that we are almost face to face.
He is painful to look at, so flawless. His skin is eerily pale and combined with his white blonde hair, he looks ill. His red eyes flicker with challenge. This should be fun.
I test my fire, making it dance across my fingertips. I let it flow from my hands onto the the Helwyr and watch him begin to burn.
His screams of terror are almost too much to bear but there is no doubt that he has done so much worse during his miserable life. I use the air to make the flames spread out from his burning body, curving around Cinder so that the other Helwyr also sets alight. Cinder looks at me with disbelief as I completely trap her by a wall of fire. This isn't going to be pretty.
