Chapter 24 ∣ Desire
-Keegan
"I-" Adrasteia's voice was shaken, her clothes covered in blood. Her wrists were bound together in front of her, a chain hanging from the end of them. I was trying to figure out if it was her own, but she tried to sit up a little straighter, her clear blue eyes locking with mine. It would have felt like no time had passed for her, being separated from me, though time worked much differently between our two planes of existence...
"What happened?" My eyes pulled away from hers, Harlan shrugging his shoulders, the full extent to his demon completely in control. Whatever it was, I wasn't too sure how I felt about him letting go of his control like that around Adrasteia.
When she wouldn't speak, Harlan stated, "I made her deceased, would be beloved my little bitch."
Adrasteia's cheeks colored and she rose to her feet, her heart beating fast. Whatever adrenaline her body experienced, soon faded when she took a step toward me and grimaced in pain. She cried out, falling forward but I quickly caught her in my arms, her body shaking.
"Harlan..." I glowered and I saw the spark in his eyes over the top of her head. He rolled them and the once electric blue eyes were replaced by his unique purple ones. His demonic features receded as he shook his head slightly.
"She killed them though," he walked closer, moving to her side and kneeling next to her. He examined the wound, asking, "If you feed, you'll be able to heal?"
"Wait, what?" I asked.
Harlan sighed and elaborated, "Your mate killed Landon and Cleo. She ripped their hearts right out of their bodies, crushing them in her hands. It was rather entertaining; I'd never seen something so brutal."
"How'd you find me so fast?" Her voice was almost muffled, her deep breathing into my chest was slowly calming her.
Harlan glanced up at me before he rose to his feet, I pulled Adrasteia away from my chest and knew she'd have no understanding of how long it had taken us to figure out what happened. "Uhhh," Harlan started, "Well..."
"It took us two days to discover that you hadn't just decided to disobey me and hide in the shadows," I informed her, watching her face shift with confusion. "At first, I thought it might be some game you were playing, but after a while, I couldn't sense the part of my soul that resides within you. I can't faze between planes anymore, so I sent Harlan to see if somehow you had decided to leave me...which hurt even more."
Harlan picked right up, her eyes shifting to him now, "We can sense energy and auras, knowing that you had a part of Keegan's soul, it was like a beacon. We can decide whether to assume a corporeal form or remain a figment of the imagination. That's why it appeared like I disappeared and had left you with Landon back in the dungeon."
"I can no longer do these things," I sighed, Adrasteia slowly understanding everything.
"I'm so sorry," she whispered, "It wasn't my choice..." her eyes grew slightly angry, "It was that whore of yours that decided I'd stepped in between the two of you, putting it upon herself to remove me from the equation. Damn though...her electricity hurt."
My heart skipped a beat, "Wait...Natasha?" I asked, Harlan's hands clenching into fists. She was an assassin? This whole time? Why the hell would she be whoring herself out to me then when she could easily have killed me at any point?
"Find her," I spoke just as Harlan was already walking toward the door, glancing over his shoulder as he said, "Oh, I'm way ahead of you. I'll let the guards know to be on high alert for her presence."
