Freedom's decision

I'm free, oh my God I'm finally free. I quickly ran to the town, excited about my new life to come.

John never allowed me outside by myself because he was always too scared that if I went out by myself I'd blab on what he was doing to me and my mother, which I probably would've done. I ran down the small hill to the main entrance, and browsed about the place wondering what I could buy with a couple of bucks. You could get some bread... nah it would go stale in a couple of days... I started to wander about the place wondering what would actually be useful for a few days. I came across a pocket knife, a black and silver glock, some waterproof matchsticks and bought them all for 6 bucks from an old man with decapitated teeth and long grey hair that elegantly swung side to side of his face as the wind blew. I also managed to find a blue and green waterproof watch (that was still working) and bought it off a young boy for a 30 cents who's mouth chewed gum so loudly it felt like you were in his mouth. He also managed to give me a Swiss Army Knife for free, plainly because ''It's boring and it's not good lookin''

I luckily found a pair of hiking boots in the stalls, and decided to trade with the owner my pair of sneakers. Whilst I began to rummage through a box full of junk, I found a Flashlight, and at the bottom of the box, three pairs of batteries. I bought that and an aid kit with a few Paracetamols left (just in case) that I found on the main table before I was about to pay, I ended up giving her a dollar and 50 cents.

I only had three dollars and 20 cents left in my pocket, and while I was browsing through some parka's, a loud shout that I couldn't properly decipher came closer, bellowing through the crowd. I wondered if it was just some drunk guy that came out of the pub, but when it got close enough, I could now hear the words, "HAYLEY! FUCKING HAYLEY YOU'VE BEEN AN HOUR! WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING OUT FOR SO LONG?!" My heart paced two times faster, and my stomach dropped dead-silent, Hayley run, run, RUN! But I need the jacket! Run!!! Run you idiot run!!! I had to think fast, oh my God what do I do... what the fuck am I supposed to do?! I thought quick, and blindly grabbed a dark blue parka, threw the remaining three dollars and 20 cents on the sellers stall table, and ran for it. I ran so fast you could hear the tinkling of clanging of the things in my bag, banging and crashing, tumbling all over in my backpack so hard I could feel them crash down at the bottom of my backpack.

''HAYLEY YOU BITCH I CAN HEAR YOU, AND THIS TIME YOUR SHIT MOM 'AINT HERE TO SAVE YOUR SORRY ASS!!!'' John's voice scared the fuck out of me, and tears started rolling down my face as I remembered what he did to my mother when she tried to protect me, I could still hear the hard slaps as he whipped his hand through the air and landed onto my mother's left cheek, causing her to tumble down on the floor with a quick and loud 'thump', blanketing the carpet with scarlet red blood from her mouth and nose.

''You'll never catch me you son of a bitch! I'm running away from you, you stupid bastard!'' I wiped away my tears and began to realize the hill was as far as I would go, with these hiking boots, I wouldn't make it to the middle of the hill without getting tired. I quickly looked left and right, panicking to see if there was a quick exit I could take to help me escape from John. On my left was a rocky road with a sign on the left hand corner saying ''Humps end - 5 miles'' Well that's definitely a route I'm not taking, I quickly looked the other side... aaah shit! John was catching up, and trailing him was a crowd of people lying down on the floor like a row of dominoes, following the screams and shouts of the people, were items being smashed, dropped, and swung onto the floor by the people who couldn't find their balance, all landing with a big 'clang!' On my right was a small wooden fence, but behind that was a crowd of trees and flattened green grass, probably from people walking on it, and then it hit me bingo! I could just make out from a far distance of these woods that there was probably miles and miles of trees, and no bears or wolves in sight. But if I wanted to escape, I would have to do it properly, because John was catching up, and fast. I could hear his puffs and hard feet throwing themselves onto the ground so hard the little bits of fallen-out gravel from the street started bouncing about each time he took another powerful stomp. My heart beat fast, and my mind blanked out the world for a second to think, we're going to make it Hayley, you've just got to jump over that fence and you're gone in a mili-second! You have got to trust yourself Hayley, think of what dad would do! Then the world came back to my eyes like a light switch.

''HAYLEY YOU BETTER PREPARE YOURSELF FOR SOME SERIOUS PUNISHMENT YOU UNGRATEFUL WRECK!'' My eyes blinked, my hands curled into fists, and I took a deep, soothing breath. Then I ran. I ran for me, for my mother, my father, it was like my life depended on it. Well, honestly, my life did depend on it, and I ran faster and faster, my legs thumping onto the ground as the studs at the bottom of my shoes munched onto the gravel, leaving broken segments of concrete on the floor. My heart beat fast, my eyes blinked trying to focus on the fence, and how close I was to freedom.

I was so close now... so close I could smell the scent of pine trees, dancing under my nose and floating around me, calling me to the wilderness... now was the time to jump, and I jumped over the mossy-green, brown-wooden fence and landed into plain old dirt. I smiled, and ran further, I could hear birds, I could feel tree twigs brushing through my hair as I ran with a smile and a small tear of happiness slide across my face. John's voice became dimmer as I paced forward. I then stopped when I couldn't hear him anymore. I sat down on the dirt, gave a big sigh of relief and smiled.

Finally I was free, finally I could explore the world with no limits, ''I'm free! I'M FREE!!''
