The Sphere

RECAP

It's the year 2531 and let's just say that things here on earth are not going well.  In the year 2478 China and Russia teamed up and dominated the world. They call themselves, The Spheres. Everywhere you go there are Sphere officials, called Pheres, people who strongly enforce the law, too strongly. If you step out of line once, you are dead. The Spheres are merciless. They killed my own father, or at least one day he was there, the next he wasn't. The only problem the Spheres face is overpopulation.  But they have a plan to fix that, but knowing the Spheres I know it will involve death. It always does.

TODAY

Today at five o'clock a Phere will pick me and my family up to bring us to a room filled with other families and individuals where they will explain what the Sphere's plan to "fix" the overpopulation problem. 

            Once the clock turned five I was shaking, what if they took me away from my family? I needed my eight year old brother, Josh, my mom is still shaky from my dad's death, and I didn't know if she could survive on her own. Tears began to sting my eyes, but I knew I'd have to stay strong for my family.

            Some one knocked on the door, the Phere. I opened the door and the Phere walked right inside.  He grabbed my arm and sat me down on the couch in the living room, "you move. You die" he said with a strong Russian accent. He was an average guy, six feet tall, slightly tanned skin, nothing special. He started looking through my home looking for my mom and my brother, once I heard shrieks from Josh I knew the Phere had found him. Josh was slammed onto the couch and soon so was my mom.

"Up" he said "you run you gone. Now where is your transporter?" my mother pointed to the bright green door that leads anywhere and everywhere. Last summer me and my brother painted it to add some colour, but now it looked like a death sentence. "You first" he said to me, he punched in coordinates to the place that would decide my fate. He opened the door and on the other side it was black. He shoved me through the door and I came flailing into what looked like an old recreational centre basement.

 The room was quite big; people were crammed in every corner of the room. It felt like there was hardly room to breathe. Everything was dusty and moldy.  The walls were painted mustard yellow and that was pretty much all I could see because it was too crowded to see anything else. There was a white sheet hung up on one side of the room with a projector hung up on the ceiling ready to tell me my fate, on the other side, where the only doorways out of the room was lined with Pheres.

I looked behind me to see my mother and Josh standing there as well. A Phere turned on the projector and it started. There was a man in the video was Asian and his voice was filled with such an accent that I could hardly understand him, but this is what I got.

"Every individual in the world except for people ages zero to twelve and seventy until death will have their own dome to live in..... People who are zero to twelve and seventy and on will go up to the Sphere, I know all of you have heard the rumors and they are all true." He smiled and said "good luck and may the smartest, strongest, and best win"

My mouth went dry, the Sphere was real. The Sphere was a metal ball floating in the middle of space, what are they going to do to Josh up there? What did he mean by win? The room filled with chaos, then out of nowhere, the basement started shaking hysterically and everyone went silent. Slowly it stopped, but no one kept talking. One question that was bugging me was, where are all these so called "domes" and what are they?

"Mom what's going to happen to me?" said Josh  with a frightened look on his face, my mom looked at him with sad eyes and simply said "you are going on an adventure, just not with me or Tally" Tally was my nickname, I was going to miss being around my mom and Josh. Why do the Spheres have to be so cruel?

"Thalia Carder!" a voice boomed out. I looked around why were they saying my name?  Suddenly a hand grabbed my arm and started dragging me away. I began to thrash bit then I thought, what if they killed me along with my father? So I stopped and let the Phere drag me away. We got outside and we entered a world that I've never seen before there was nothing except huge steel domes towering above me and the Phere. The Phere dragged me to a dome. He took his hand and placed it on it. Out of nowhere a door slid open and the Phere pushed me into the dome. Before I could take in my surroundings he took a syringe, dug the needle into my neck and soon the fluid began to take away my senses,I looked back at the Phere with all the energy I had left and I realized the phere was my father.
