The piercing scream vibrated through my head all night. I couldn’t sleep a wink even if I wanted to. Fear and dread filled me up that I found that it would be hopeless to even try winning. But I knew to find my family wherever they are I would need to stay alive.  I took a deep breath and sat up a little.

It was now ten hours into what I called the trials. One person was down and there were five people including me left.  I opened my food bag and just by glancing in there I knew I had no appetite for and type of food today.

A slight cool breeze came by and I shivered under my racecar suit… thing.  I looked up at the sky looking at the big fake moon lighting the whole dome.

I settled down and got comfortable, at this rate I would be here for a while. My eyes started to feel droopy but soon I was sitting upright because of the terrifying sound I heard. Outright cries and sobs cutting through my soul. I was inches away from jumping down and saving whoever was in danger. But that would mean I was also placing myself into danger. I just couldn’t do that to Josh, I needed to save him.

The cries lasted half an hour and the whole time I had tears streaming nonstop down my face. Now there were four people left including me, three people for me to fight to survive.

The rest of the night was silent. The sun rose and I knew I had to start moving or else someone would be bound to find me. I took my bow and arrow and my food bag and I was off. I knew I would find another tree to stay up in. it had to be shadowed and somewhere on the side of the dome. I found a cute maple tree in the shadows of a willow tree.

I settled in one of the sturdy middle branches and scanned the area to make sure that no one had seen me. I was in the clear.

I took a deep breath and somewhat relaxed. No one knew where I was or who I was, so technically I was kind of safe or at least as safe as I could be considering the circumstances.  I smiled at myself I had a chance for the first time in these trials I finally believed I had a chance. To survive.  Not to win, I wasn’t winning anything what was there to win? I was in an arena where people were supposed to fight and kill there was nothing to win.

All out of nowhere I felt very uncomfortable I had felt fine a couple seconds ago I had felt fine but there was a huge stinging on my right wrist.  I pulled up my sleeve and instantly I saw the damage. There was the number three being engraved on my wrist. I gasped in horror what did this mean? And how had I not felt this before?

I stared at my scar for an hour and I had my idea what it meant. So the three stood for how many people had died, I shivered at the thought. And I didn’t feel it before because I was guessing that the pain would increase with each death so I hadn’t noticed it before.

So there were three people left, two people excluding me. I knew from my plans that I would have to get my ass into these trials and survive. I gulped, and got my things together discarding any unnecessary items. I took a deep breath and jumped down from the maple tree.

I looked behind me saying goodbye, not to the tree but to safety. I began to walk away with all the confidence I could muster. I could survive I thought.
