"You will NEVER guess what your niece did last night," I exclaimed, a soft chuckle dripping from my lips. From the corner of my eye I could see Vic grinning from ear to ear, his head softly shaking back and forth as the memory played through his mind. From across the table Mike raised his eyebrows, setting his beer down and directing his attention towards me.
"Oh no, do tell," Mike replied enthusiastically.
"So, the other night," I began, "We were watching tv on the couch; the baby was asleep, and Lilly was playing with her dolls on the floor. And all of a sudden she turns to Vic and says 'Daddy, what does fuck mean?'"
Mike's hand shoots up to cover his mouth, a snort eliciting from his nose. "Oh shit, Lyla!" he exclaims.
"I'm not kidding! I was just completely shocked that that came out of her mouth. And Vic literally choked on his beer, spitting most of it out onto the coffee table!" I was laughing uncontrollably, the alcohol swirling in my mind and making me feel euphoric.
"So what did you say?!" Alysha shrieked.
"I was speechless," I replied," I just couldn't believe what my little girl had just said!" I turned towards Vic, watching him take a slow drink of his whiskey.
"I didn't know what to say," Vic interjected, his words slightly slurred and coated with laughter. "After I composed myself I think I finally managed to ask her where she heard that word."
"And??" Mike questioned.
"She looked at me and said, 'I heard mommy say it when she hit her toe on the table.'"
Everyone turned their gaze in my direction, laughter surrounding us once again, and I could feel my face turning red, burning with embarrassment.
Beneath the table Vic rested his hand on my thigh, squeezing lightly, while we continued to laugh at how our 5 year old was so inquisitive.
It was moments like these that I lived for, having Vic home and the rest of the guys around, having my family complete, even if for only a few short weeks.
