Meridian. One year ago.
All of Meridian was getting ready for a coronation. The red, magical planet, whose people were human-like but with blue or green tinted skin, was buzzing with excitement. There were others citizens with peach colored skin, like the Royal family, who descended from the Oracle planet, Kandrakar, long ago.
Meridian was recognized for its farms and the flamboyancy of its markets. The citizens crowded the market place closest to the castle in hopes of being able to get to the coronation early. Rumors about the new king were being exchanged between every group of chatting customers and vendors.
The gates to the vine-covered castle were shut and guards stood at the ready at every entrance, as well as every tunnel. Meridian, while it did strive in agriculture, was also known to have many, many underground tunnels.
Luckily for all of Meridian, the sky was peaceful with no signs of any sort of bad weather in the near future. The blue above their heads reflected in Princess Madi's eyes as she adjusted the pendant on her older brother's chest.
"Are you scared?" She asked him. The siblings stood alone in Prince Lukas' room. They had a mere few hours before his coronation and Lukas had insisted he could get ready on his own. His little sister being the exception.
Lukas' room was large and extravagant. A bed, much too big for him to sleep alone in every night, was up against the far wall and layers of elegant duvets were mounted atop of it. Paintings and artifacts decorated the walls of the brightly-lit room. There was also a large, glass window that overlooked the large city closest to the castle. That addition was Lukas' favorite.
"Why would I be?" A smirk took place on Lukas' face.
He had just turned eighteen, meaning he was soon to be the official ruler of Meridian. Since the death of their parents, their planet had been ruled by a group of trusted advisors until Lukas became of age. But at sixteen, Lukas had already been unofficially deciding most of what would be happening on his planet. And since then, their red home has strived. The magic that surrounded them had become more powerful as people became happier, which made their planet grow in strength. But it also made the criminals of this universe want to find a way to take it as their own. So far none have.
"Because you're going to be king," Madi pointed out the obvious. She wasn't much younger than Lukas, but the older boy never let her forget the two year difference between them.
"Thanks, Madi. I really had no idea about that. I'm so glad you pointed that out," Lukas shook his head of messy hair and turned to the full length mirror in his room.
Piercing blue eyes stared back at him as he checked over what he was wearing for what must have been the hundredth time. He, personally, didn't think much of appearances but he knew that people everywhere would have something to say about the way he presented himself as the new king.
"You couldn't get a haircut for this?" Madi's ever sassy opinion chimed up behind him and he glared at her through the mirror. His light brown locks had been gelled back but a few rebellious curls had still found their way to escape and slip in front of Lukas' eyes.
"You're one to talk, Madi," he retorted. "You really sure you want to present yourself in front of, what's his name, Captain Benjamin looking like that?"
Self-consciously, Madi looked down at what she was wearing and checked to make sure the curls in her hair were still intact. They were, so she had no idea what her brother was talking about. But she wanted to fix it because despite herself, she really had taken a liking to the captain and her brother happened to also be the king of honesty.
