You made a cheesy joke today

And I laughed like always

Soon the jokes stopped

And the house became silent

I missed when the room was filled

With your infectious laugh.

Why did you stop smiling?

Maybe it's the stress from work?

You are working really hard.

But when I tried to comfort you

You pushed me away

So I started being careless.

Asking simple questions.

Telling little white lies

And purposefully being ignorant.

This became a routine
