"I don't know what's wrong Doctor. His hearing just worsened recently." The mother said, worried about her son who sat in the uncomfortable check-up chair next to her.
"Well, let's see what's going on in there." Piero replied, shining a small beam of light into the seven-year-old's ear.
"Ah, here we are. The cause for his hearing loss is due to this." He pulled out a small pebble from the kid's ear and displayed it for them to see.  "He must've stuck this pebble in his ear and it got stuck, resulting in his hearing loss."
The blue-eyed boy giggled taking the pebble from Piero and examining it. The mom gave a relieved sigh and smiled at her son.
"He has always been a handful." She kissed his hair. "Thank you Doctor."
Piero smiled, walking over to his desk and taking out a toy from the drawer, handing it to the bright-eyed child.  "Here, you can play with this instead."
The kid smiled and immediately took to playing with the race car.
"Oh doctor'" The woman spoke. "There's a horrible rumor going around town that you're leaving to the states?" She questioned.
"It's not a rumor Cecil. I was given the opportunity to go to the states to continue my education and intern in a hospital in Denver Colorado for a while." Piero explained while cleaning his instruments and putting them away in different drawers and cabinets.
"But Doctor, who will take care of us here in Sicily?" Cecil asked, her expression worried.
"I'm not going to leave my people defenseless. There will be an experienced doctor here taking over my clinic while I'm gone." He turned to her and smiled softly. "Don't worry Cecil, everything will be fine. I won't be gone for too long."
