CHAPTER FOUR: IS THAT YOU PAIGE?
Sydney's POV
I awoke to the sound of wind coming in through the open door downstairs, the door to the outside world. Slowly I went down the stair railing so the stairs wouldn't creak awaking my mother. Before I came downstairs I noticed something strange. Paige was gone. I'm pretty sure she snuck out because I would've been woken up if something bad had happened because I'm a very light sleeper and also because I fell asleep before I even saw her get her pajamas on. Just as I was about to close the door I heard some one Rampling up the cobblestone sidewalk to my house. Being as scared as I was I don't know why but I ran outside to confront the killer, only to find that it was my innocent bestie. Except she didn't look so good, her skin was so pale it sent off this light hue almost like she was shining.I grabbed her hand to pull her inside and almost screamed. Her hand was almost as cold as dry ice. Instantly I sank to the ground and let the tears of sheer pain roll down my rosy cheeks and drip off of my sharp jawline. Slowly I turned my hand over it was a strawberry red and already blistering like when you get a really bad burn. It was that moment Paige said something. Only it wasn't Paige, it was her body and her face and her lips, but it wasn't her voice. Sydney my sweet friend I don't feel good make me some camomile tea in the kitchen? The voice felt so familiar as if I'd experienced it somewhere before but I couldn't place it, so I did what Paige said to. "Fine but be quiet you wouldn't want to wake up my mom. We'd be in for some serious butt kicking." I went first and quietly opened the door I held it for Paige. Surprisingly she was very quiet until we got to the kitchen. I swear she moved and sat in our fragile wooden chairs as loudly, as rudely, and as heavily as she could, which was so unlike her. I was getting worried.
Rushing to make sure that my mom was still sleeping I found her just waking up. Quickly I ran and told her that I got really thirsty and needed to reach the cups in the high cupboard and so I accidentally dragged the chair a little to loudly. She was so sleeping she didn't question my excuse she simply asked if I needed a helping hand. "No mom thanks anyway but I already got my water." I tucked her back into bed and made sure to close her bedroom door on the way out. That would make everything at least a little bit more quiet. Walking into the I kitchen I was bewildered. Paige or what used to be Paige was drinking her tea with her finger! quickly and quietly I backed up so she wouldn't be able to see me. Clearly whatever had just happened there, was something that I wasn't supposed to have seen. Shaking my head to return to this so-called reality I made sure to walk loudly so that the thing in the kitchen would be aware I was coming.
As I stomped into the room I couldn't help feeling like that thing that was my best friend was now looking at me with a murderous look of hatred. I decided to wake my mom and tell her what was happening and what we did even though she would be extremely angry with us. Before I could do anything or go anywhere I was slammed backwards by an invisible wall of air. I looked up at Paige and was utterly shocked to find that she had a gun. Some people would say it wasn't that scary because it was just a small hand pistol but honestly a gun is a gun and you could get shot by and die from all guns. Trying desperately to awake my mother I made the mistake of trying to scream. Paige came over and stuffed one of her dirty socks into my mouth. BLEC! She settled the tip of the barrel against the centre of my forehead. At this point I had given up on any chance of survival so instead of begging and pleading for my life, I sank to my knees and let my eyes silently pour all of my salty tears down my already sweat stained face.
I was zoned out the whole time The Monster version of Paige was explaining how she was going to kill me. A smack, the metallic smell of blood, and the feeling of something oozing from the side of my face jerked me back to the real world. The pain was so unbearable I don't know why I wasn't dead but it was sharp and cleared my thoughts. I had a plan to wake up my mother. Since I didn't have a lot of other options I decided to go with this one. It was probably the most dangerous one but if I could somehow pull it off it would be the most beneficial. Trying not to grin I set to work talking to the demon. Telling him to kill me already.
My plan was kind of silly I'll admit but it was also genius. Anyways as soon as Paige put the gun to my head and was about to pull the trigger I would move out of the way and point the gun at the floor. That way when the shot went off no one got hurt but my mom would be woken up and she would be able to help save me. "I bet you don't even have the guts to shoot me mush brain." Then it happened so quickly she put the gun to my head hand on the trigger and I moved. BANG! I was too late. Before I could close my mouth I let loose a blood curdling scream that people across the world would've heard I'm sure. The bullet had missed the floor by inches, it went all the way through the very centre of my shoulder. My sobbing continued as I watched Paige turn towards the hallway. It worked my mother aphid woken up.
It took practically all of the energy I could muster but I got my phone out and texted her Paige is possessed I think. We were playing with the ouija board and she left the house and came back like this. She texted back asking where the board was. Somewhere in my room, I texted back. She told me to distract the demon while she went and got it, so even though I was scared that is what I did. I told her she was so evil and asked her why she would do such a thing, I told her she really hurt me and I wasn't sure if we could still be friends etc. Finally after what seemed like an eternity my mom snuck back in with the ouija board in her hand. I couldn't believe what happened next. She hit Paige on the head as hard as she could with the board. Two seconds later Paige shrunk to regular size and was on the floor fast asleep.
