Monologue for Ishmael Bernal's
City after dark

By: Alfred A. Yuson

There is no city but this city.
This landscape of your life.
Wherever you turn black ruins
Of your loves come into view.
You tell yourself there'll be
Another place, another time.

You wish for other harbors,
Other voices,but only an echo
Of the city, the self-same city
Shimmers in the hearing glass...
There is no city but not this city.
