Chapter 2

I smashed my head against the tree, and my vision started blurring. I could hear a ringing noise in my ear, and it kind of scared me. Everything was silent for a few seconds, then the sound hit me again. I heard the baby crying, and I heard the sound of branches being stepped on.

Looking down at the baby, I noticed she was fine. I sighed relieved, the only thing wrong was the tears running down her little face. “It’s okay,” I whispered to her. She whimpered, and looked up at me. Her big brown eyes were filled with tears.

I held her close to my chest. “Shh, it’s going to be okay,” The baby calmed down, and I realized then I was being watched. I looked up and noticed the man staring at me. His head was twisted a little bit, and I finally got a good look at his face.

His glasses were off, showing his eyes. Crimson eyes that scared me. He had dirty blonde hair that went to his ear. His face was pale as snow, possibly even whiter. But none the less, he was beautiful. He could be a model except for the fact of his eyes.

“S-stay away from us,” I told him. I didn’t want him anywhere near the baby. With his inhuman strength, and his good looks, I knew right then that he wasn’t human. His eyes were red! I hadn’t heard of such a thing. No person in the world has red eyes.

They are given to you, like a curse. I read it in books all the time, books about vampires. Pale white skin, ugly looking, red eyes, the thirst for blood really strong. But there was no way this man was a vampire. Right? He wasn’t ugly looking- he was the opposite.

He was so good looking, it hurt to stare at him for so long because you envied him. But maybe vampires are different? Maybe they are real, and they are good looking? Which brings out the fang incident, would he have fangs?

Quickly, I grabbed a stick by my side, the end of it was pointy. I could protect myself if I had to, hit him with a wooden stick. If he was a vampire, which I was eighty five percent sure he was, then he’d die.

He kept walking closer to us, his eyes narrowed and he licked his lips. I noticed the baby wasn’t crying anymore, she was quiet almost like she was listening to what was happening around her. I knew one thing though, I was going to protect the girl.

Even though I just met her, even though I didn’t know whose baby it was, I vowed my life to her. The first moment I laid eyes on her, I knew I had to do everything in my power to protect her. And I will, even if it meant dying in her place.

Wait, what was I saying? I just met this child, and I was already vowing my life to save her. Then again she is just a baby. She can’t protect herself, so I have to protect her.

He was a few feet from me now, but I had a plan. I held onto the baby girl tighter, and then stood up. I lunged forward fast, and tried to stab the man with the stick. But nothing happened. The stick crumbled in my hand, and I let go of the pieces. The man looked down at his chest, where I had stabbed him and growled loud like a beast.

“You shouldn’t have done that,” He warned. I wasn’t going to wait around to see what else would happen, I ran from him, hoping over some of the tree branches on the ground, and ran into the forest. It probably wasn’t the smartest idea, but if I went into the forest I could lose him.

The forest was surrounded in trees, and there was no way he could catch me. Everything looked the same, so I hoped he got lost. I held the child in my arms, holding her to my chest. Eventually, I couldn’t run anymore, I was breathing heavily and I had to take a minute to rest.

I looked around to see where I could stop, and saw a clearing. The grass was high, and wild flowers grew. If I laid down, would the man be able to see me? I hoped not. I ran towards the field, but before I could get there, I felt arms around me.

I screamed, and struggled to break free of the persons grip. I noticed blonde hair moving, and I knew it was the person before. “Let go!” I screamed at him. It was hard to break out of his grip, and hold onto the baby as well.

The man grabbed a hold of my arm, and then I heard a snap. A few seconds later I felt the numbness and then the pain. He broke my arm! I gasped, and then whimpered. The pain hurt really bad. It hurt to even move it. Especially since I was holding a baby with the hand.

I moved the baby to my other arm, though it was difficult, I still managed.

“What do you want?” I whispered to him. He grabbed a hold of my neck, and I froze in the spot. I felt him getting closer, and then I felt something at my neck. It was sharp, like a knife piercing my skin. It hurt like hell, and I managed to gasp.

I started feeling a little dizzy, I felt like someone was sucking the life out of me. I heard the man moan, and I could feel the man's tongue on my skin.

“Stop!” I heard another voice say, but I couldn’t focus on it. All I could think about was the piercing feeling on my neck; and then it was gone. Just like that the piercing feeling was gone, and it was replaced with a burning sensation.

Was I on fire or something? It started from my neck, but I could feel it moving to other places. I screamed, and gasped. I felt numb now, what was happening to me? I had to get away though, if the man was close. I had to move.

But I couldn’t all I could think about was the pain, the burning. MOVE! Come on, move your feet, get to the clearing. You can lay down there. Come on. My feet were suddenly moving, and I was stumbling towards the clearing.

The sun was shining down in it, as I got closer I noticed a nice spot to lay in. I walked towards it, gasping loudly. The burning had made it’s way to my shoulders, and I couldn’t feel them anymore. I knew sooner or later my whole body was going to feel like it.

Once I made it to the spot, I fell on my knees, and then on my back. I could hear my breathing, it was ragged, and  I could hear slight moans and gasps coming out of my mouth. I couldn’t move my head anymore, I felt trapped.

Was I dying? What was happening to me? I could see the baby at the corner of my eye, her eyes were wide open, and she was staring at the sun. She was cooing, and making little noises. I was just glad she was okay though.

My vision started getting blurry, as the pain made its way to my face. I couldn’t feel my face, I couldn’t move my mouth, I couldn’t do anything. I was scared, this had never happened before.

Something popped in my vision, I got a glimpse of white, and I panicked. Of course I couldn’t do anything because I was paralysed. I prayed it wasn’t the man again. Get away from us! Get away from the baby, away from me. “N-no,” I managed to say. Then I got a better view of the person. I met the same golden eyes that once were filled with anger, hate.

Now they were filled with concern, did I see love in there? I saw panic. He looked the same as he always had, beautiful and pale. His bronze hair stuck up in different places, always messy, but it still looked good.

“H-help,” I stuttered out. His eyes turned black then, and he put his hand to his nose like he was covering it. What was wrong with him? And how could his eyes turn black like that? “H-her,”

I saw his eyes land on the baby, his eyes went wide with shock, before he composed it. He stared her, and I wanted to yell at him. He was just standing there staring at us, like did he not see me? I probably looked like a mess.

He’d probably leave me to die, and take the baby. I didn’t care though, as long as she was safe. I saw him bend down, and my vision started moving. I realized he had picked me up, and I knew he had the baby to because I saw white on my lap.

“I got you,” were the last words I heard before I passed out.
