Never Make A Promise [Book One] (Short Story)

Then and Now.

-Then

"Camran, come on! We gotta go!"

I stared as he ran back into the club. After five minutes, I grabbed my gun and ran in after him. I saw blood everywhere!

I held my gun down, "Camran? Camran!"

I heard someone shoot so I ducked behind the bar. I looked up and they shot at me. I shot and killed them. I hate this. But I'll never be free.

I ran over to the boy's bathroom and looked around inside, "Camran?"

"Shut up!" I looked around and saw him in one of the stalls.

I ran over to him and closed the door, "Let's go! Why'd you even come back in here?"

"Gotta save my dawg! You needa get 'cha ass back in that car and go home!"

"Not without you!"

I tried to pull him out of the stall but he wouldn't move. He just pushed me out and I fell to the floor.

"Camran, please! I'm begging you! Let's just go! I know we can get out of this! We gotta do it together!"

He looked at me and ran out the bathroom. I thought he was going to get in the car but he just looked around for his friend. I sat there and started to cry. Then I heard a gunshot. Shit!

I ran out with my gun ready to unload. I saw some dude standing over Camran about to shoot him. Before I could even shoot, he shot twice. I unloaded every bullet in my gun on him. When he fell to the floor I ran over to Camran.

"Camran! Come on, you can't leave me!"

"Baby sis, it's over. You need to just go."

A tear ran down my face, "No. N-No! Camran! I'm not leaving you come on!" I tried to pick him up but he was to heavy for me to lift him by myself.

"Domani, stop. Just go! I know there's more guys here. They're looking for you so just go!

"No, Camran! I need you!"

"Domani..." He started coughing up blood, "Aww shit! Look, Domani, don't worry about me. I'll be watching over you. Just promise me.... Promise me that you'll get out of this and never go back."

He was trying to hold on as long as he could. I could even feel his skin getting cold.

"Camran, you know I can't. That's why I need you!"

"Domanique, you don't need anybody but God! Stop saying you need me. I'm not gonna be here anymore."

"Don't say that."

"Domanique, promise me!"

"I-I..." I started crying.

"Domani, don't cry."

"How can I not cry, Camran? My only brother is dying! It was supposed to be "CD" remember? Camran and Domani!"

"Domani, you know this isn't how I wanted it."

"Well it's how it is, Camran."

"Dom... Are you gonna make sure you get out of this?"

"Ye-Yes... I promise.

"That's all I needed to hear you say. Making shit so difficult. I only have a limited amount of time."

"I'm sorry. I love you."

"I love you, too."

"Does it hurt?"

"Badly." He grunted.
