Chapter 1

"I swear, you never listen J." She plucked shirts from my dresser, tossing them into my suitcase. My eyes stayed fixated on my laptop "I'm getting some serious deja vu." I swiveled around, arching my brow and crossing my arms. Channeling the sarcasm from deep within. "Have we had this conversation before?" The quick flick of the book raided the room, as it whipped through the air before it thwacked against the side of my head. "I don't expect you to remember that you're being shipped off today right?"

"Why do you insist on getting physical?"  My hand pressed against the now pulsating knot. "Because as your mother, I have the right to deal with you as I please." She tossed the book on my bed. She huffed and looked around the room, setting her hands on her hips. "I just don't get why you haven't packed anything." She began to pace. "It's like anything I say to you goes in one ear then falls right out of your ass." She tossed a shirt in my direction. I had been "selected" for an exchange program in South Korea, and hadn't packed a single item.

Like any other wildly unpopular eighteen year old in highschool. I spent most of my time with my face in my books and my hands on my computer. Eventually one thing lead to another, and getting sucked into the massive void of the internet.  I signed up for an exchange scholarship program for entertainment journalism. So instead of completing my senior year, I'll be shadowing other entertainment journalists. And to my moms dismay, missing out on all prom queen opportunities.

"Be packed by two, we should be out the door by three." She left my room, with the door agape. My hands went back to my computer as I skimmed over the program brochure email. Reading over the basic information like, living arrangements, my mentor and how much free time I'd have. Everything was set in motion expect for my nerves. I was oddly at ease knowing I'd be alone in a foreign country for almost a year. Not a familiar face in sight, or a sense of peace. Thrusted into the world of the unknown. What could go wrong.
