Eren's POV

I stared in curiosity outside the dirty and scratched up glass that allowed me to slightly see through my small transparent cage as another family entered the humble pet shop. The family consisted of an older but still young looking boy, a small girl who looked a few years younger than the boy, I was guessing they were siblings since they looked so similar, a sweet looking older lady with a bright smile on her face, the mother I assumed, and a not so amused scruffy faced man who I assumed to be the father. The two children immediately took off running to my section, the kittens, or in my case, 'teenage' cats.

I immediately perked my head up when the young siblings traveled to the cat area I was in, I did my best to look as likeable as I could, rolling onto my back and pawing at the air making purring sounds and staring at the children with wide adorable teal kitten eyes, the trick I played on everyone, but unfortunately never worked. You see I've been in this so called 'pet care' -which was really just a small pet shop that took in stray animals for adoption and put them in boxes for the time being- for almost five years now, children and parents/adults always looked over me, or saw me but continued on, eventually choosing another pet or smaller kitten that looked 'cuter' than me as they would put it. It always hurt me a little inside, was I not good enough to have around?

I was the oldest in the cat section, me being 17 in human years (also being here for the longest). my sister Mikasa being the second oldest, then my best friend Armin being the third, then Jean, Ymir, Reiner, Bertholdt, Marco, then Annie. The rest of my friends, Sasha, Connie, and Krista, were adopted not too long ago, Sasha and Connie being adopted together and Krista being split from Ymir, who were both very sad about it.

One thing you should know about me and my group of friends is we aren't regular cats, I'm sure you've guessed it, we're Nekos. A rare cat/human hybrid with only few living in the world, I met my friends a few years ago, coincidentally us being all Nekos, we are sure there are more in the city, but we are all that we know of for now. We've stuck together since then, living on the streets after we all found out about each others sob stories on how we ended up abandoned. My story was my dad, being a human, and abandoning me when he found out I took after my mother, who was also a Neko, who was sold for her Neko parts then murdered after.

Nekos are rare, as I've said before. Therefore being very valuable, that is why there are less of us in the world today. Nekos are raped, harassed, sold for drugs or money, abused, killed for their ears and tails, the list goes on. That's why me and my friends vowed to protect each other, we are a big group so it wasn't hard to fend off any disgusting people who tried to touch one of us.

But unfortunately, after we were all taken in one by one into the pet adoption center, me being the first, we slowly each got separated due to some of us being adopted and some of us staying behind. But it wasn't all sad to see them go, because each night some of us would shift into our human forms and unlock our cages, taking the keys and escaping the store to meet our adopted friends in alleys and catch up on how things are going. Some of you might ask 'well if you could do all that and escape every night to see your friends why not escape perminately and leave the adoption center if you don't like it there?' Well you see, we might not like it there but we do get fed daily, a cat bed, and each the chance to get adopted and live in a comfortable home. Which let me tell you is much better than living on the streets having the risky chance of accidentally shifting into human form in public, getting caught, having to rumage through trashcans and dumpsters (A/N: aka me.). So yeah basically you see why we stay in those pet stores. Unfortunately only my group of friends know we are Nekos and we are NOT allowed to let our owners know, or anyone know we are hybrids once we get adopted. You can see why after I told you what happens to us Nekos.
