Another Fine Day In Washington State
1
Luke woke up to the annoying beeping of his alarm clock. He quickly reached over to his nightstand and shut it off. Alarm clocks were the worst sound in the world. They meant it was time to wake up, and usually time to go to school.
Luke layed still for a moment, looking up at the ceiling of his room. After a few minutes he stumbled out of his bed. He let out a big yawn as he stretched his arms. Luke hated Mondays with a burning passion. No, he hated mornings with a burning passion, period. For a moment he contemplated skipping school, but he came to the conclusion that it wasn't a good idea.
Luke walked out of his bedroom and went left, down the hall towards the bathroom. As he reached for the door knob he realized it was locked. His mom had most likely already left to go to work at the hospital, so it must have been his older sister Elizabeth.
"Hey Lizzy hurry up! Don't use all the hot water either!" Luke yelled through the door.
"Kay!" She called back.
"Don't "Kay" me!"
"Kay!!!" She yelled back even louder.
"Bitch" Luke mumbled
Luke turned around and walked back to his room. He had to wait to get into the bathroom so he could get a shower. Luke wanted to dive back into his bed, but he knew that meant sleep, and sleep meant late for school. So instead he just mingled around his room. Clothes and other stuff was scattered all over the floor. His clean clothes had yet to be put away, so they were stacked on his dresser. His desk held a nice computer, but it was evened out by the compilation of empty "monster" cans around it. Luke let out a sigh, what a mess.
The sound of the bathroom door opening came from the hall. "Alright Luke go ahead."
Luke dragged himself back to the bathroom. Before he shut the door he called across the hall to Liz's room. "Lizzy waffles!".
"Luke! Make your own!" She called back to him.
Luke ignored Elizabeth, and shut the bathroom door. After locking the door he went over to the shower and adjusted the water to a nice hot temperature. That oughta wake him up. He took off his "pajamas", which was really just a tee shirt and gym shorts, then got in the shower.

Elizabeth put a towel around her body, and opened up the bathroom door. She walked across the hall to her bedroom and shut the door behind her, after calling to Luke " Alright Luke go ahead". Lizzy walked over the far corner of her room where her closet was. Her room was the opposite of Luke's. It was totally neat and organized, having it a mess stressed her out. Maybe it was a little bit of OCD or something. She couldn't even imagine how Luke could live in such a pig sty.
Elizabeth dropped her towel to the floor, and put on her underwear. Then she threw on a light blue tank top, and a pair of brown pants. It wasn't anything fabulous, but she was too tired to care.
As she finished getting dressed she heard Luke yell something. "Lizzy waffles!".
Liz wasn't his maid. " Luke! Make your own!"
He did'nt say anything else. I win, she thought to herself. Then Liz walked over to her table where she kept her notebooks, laptop, and various other junk. There was a mirror on the wall above it, she looked into it. Her bright blonde hair was still damp so she blow dried it for a few minutes, then put it up in a simple messy bun. Her face showed she was obviously tired. Guess that's what you get for staying up online all night, she thought. Liz put on a little bit of subtle makeup so she didn't look so bad, wouldn't want to ruin her beautiful blue eyes. That was all Liz felt like doing today. #Lazy.
Liz grabbed her iPhone off its charger on the desk then made her way downstairs to the kitchen. She opened up the freezer and got out four waffles, two for her, two for Luke. She put them in the waffle maker, and walked into the living room. The television was left on, probably from her mother earlier. It was on the weather channel, the "Local on the 8's" was on. How exciting!
Liz flopped down onto the couch and grabbed the remote from the coffee table. She flipped through the channels for a few minutes. Nothing was really on this early besides infommercials, or Full House, so she switched it to the news and left it there. They were finishing up a story about some crazy dude who had killed his whole family the night before. Jesus Christ, people are fucked up Lizzy thought. The news always brightens up people's day.

Luke got out of the shower, and dried himself off. He wrapped a towel around his waste and brushed his teeth real quick. Then he went back to his bedroom to get dressed. He didn't think into it too much. He threw on a dark pair of jeans, and a tee shirt with a black button up over it. He rolled the sleeves up to his elbows, then sat on his bed to put on his shoes. They were a grey pair of old DC's. For a moment Luke thought about combing his hair so it wasn't such a mess. He had blonde hair just like his mother and sister, just a little darker. Really, he looked nothing like his father besides his brown eyes. Eh, it's always a mess, who cares? Luke decided.
Alright ready for school. Luke went downstairs and into the kitchen. Liz was stting at the kitchen table eating a couple of waffles. Another plate of waffles was on the other side of the table. luke could only guess they were his. He took a seat and began eating.
" Thanks sis" Luke said between bites.
"mhmm." she nodded as she ate.
"Mom already gone then?"
"yep"
"Whens she get off tonight?"
" I think six, but I'm not sure."
"aight" Luke dismissed.
"Why?" Liz asked.
"Why what?"
"Why you askin when moms gonna be home?"
"Just wonderin"
"sure" Liz smirked.
" what's that supposed to mean?" Luke asked.
" Oh nothin" She teased
"fine I don't care anyways."
"Right"
"Quit being a bitch." Luke said, annoyed.
Liz was taken a little by surprise, she let out a sarcastic laugh " Somebody woke up on the wrong side of the mess pile."
" Maybe somebody is just a little annoyed by you."
" Oh, comonn! What kinda older sister would I be if I weren't a lil bit of a bitch?"
" One that isn't a bitch?" Luke shrugged
"Clever" Liz ended as she finished her last bite and got up to put the plate in the sink. "Hurry up we gotta get ta school."
"On it" Luke accepted the challenge as he scarfed down the last of his breakfast.
Luke got up and put his plate in the sink. Then he went through the living room to the front door. Laying against the wall was his backpack (an old green rucksack more like). He grabbed his black leather jacket off the coat hangar and put it on, Then tossed the bag over his shoulder. As Liz came over to put on her red converse shoes, and get her things, Luke opened up the door and stepped outside.
The air was cold and windy, big grey clouds covered the sun. Another fine Autumn day in Washington State. The ground was a little damp from a rain shower from the night before, it was pretty nasty day as far as weather is concerned. That being said, the actual scenery was as beautiful as ever. The temperatures may not be as warm as Luke would prefer, but it can't get much better then the Pacific Northwest when it comes to the actual area.
Luke, Liz, and their mother, Donna had lived in Seattle originally. Two years ago they moved out of the city, Mom said it was because she was sick of the city, but they all knew it was because Luke and Liz's father, Jack, had been killed in a car accident. I guess it was Mom's way of starting a new chapter. At first Luke hated it, but he got used to his new home. It wasn't so bad. Now they lived in a small town surrounded by woods called Andale. It was really secluded which was cool and weird. They had a nice two story place in a really clean cut, boring, neighborhood. It was about a 10 minutes drive from downtown, where all the "cool" stuff happened.
"Hey dumbass! You gonna get in the car, or you decide you wanna walk?" Liz called from her care.It was sitting in the driveway, Luke started heading over to it.
"Yeah sorry" he said as he climbed into the passenger seat.
Liz's car was a black 2005 Ford Taurus. It wasn't as bad as it could have been for a first car, but it could definitely be better. Liz got it for almost a year and a half ago for her 16th birthday. Sweet Sixteen. Luke didn't get a car for his 16th birthday, but he also had yet to even get his permit. He didn't really have much motivation to when he could easily walk to wherever he wanted.
Liz backed out of the drive way and started going down the street. The neighborhood was about as active as usual, people walking dogs, jogging, arguing, being weird. The usual stuff, but something felt off. Something was not quite right. He had a bad feeling about the day. Luke ignored it though and quickly forgot about it.
Luke turned on the radio and searched through the channels, eventually stopping when he hear "Lake of Fire" by Nirvana. For a few moments Luke was enjoying the drive, then Liz had to go and change the channel. Yay, Miley Cirus!!! (Sarcasm)
