Some would say being bitten by this sort of immortal is the best feeling in the world. Almost like being high. I beg to differ. The bite itself is not the bad part, it's the feeling of being helpless, no self control. I'd only bitten one person and that was Kiran and I had no choice. The juice suffices just fine for me. It's made from our blood and another mineral that keeps it fresh.
I never choose this life, nor would I ever. Being turned was forced upon me at a young age, like most immortals. I was little and my mother told me to, simple as that. But now, if I could go back, I would never do it.
Kiran is my only source of survival at the moment, and I'm in to position to question that. I feel dirty knowing that the juice contains some of his blood.
I lie in bed drifting in and out of cautiousness. At one point I hear conversations begin I am too weak to get up. Evan is here.
"Where's Laney?" He demands. I fear for him, but I can barely move.
"She's... resting. Not feeling too well." Kiran says, not far from the truth.
"Look, I saw you take her from school. I want to see her." Evan demands once more.
"I'm sorry, but that's not likely. She needs her rest. Thank you for your concern and I will tell her you stopped by." An evil smile danced across Kiran's lips.
"Look. I want to talk to Laney. I.. I'm not afraid of you. I'll fight you-" I heard Kiran shut the door then, thankful he just let it go.
I don't know how long I was in bed, but it was awhile. I remember hearing Evan's voice more than once. I was fully awake the last time he stopped over.
"Foolish boy. Back so soon?" Kiran said. "I hate to say I never tire of your company."
"Look man, it's been three days. I want to see her."
"Don't worry, boy. She's in good hands. She'll be back before you know it." Kiran assured him. "I hate to cut our pow-wow short, but big game's on tonight. You understand." Kiran winked.
"When will she be back?" Kiran didn't bother to answer, but instead shut the door.
"Always a pleasure." He mumbled to himself.
I had enough strength to walk, but not much more. As I got up I saw my reflection in the mirror. my eyes were droopy and my skin was paler than usual. At my old school I was often mistakenly called a red-headed albino, when in fact I'm an auburn-headed immortal. We're so pale because we don't get nutrients that humans get from the foods they eat.
"Leighton, you're up!" Kiran said shocked by my presence. "How do you feel?" I glared at him and took a deep breath before replying.
"How do I feel? You almost killed me you ass hole!" I said and swallowed.
"I wouldn't take it that far." kiran defended.
"You took too much and you know it. I was too weak to move. How could you do that, Kiran?" I shouted.
"Baby, you need to calm down. you and I both know it was an accident."
"An accident? Do you not know how to stop? I almost died, Kiran. Because of you, I almost died. You know how hard it is to kill an immortal, and you almost did without effort. I'm immortal! Incapable of dying and somehow you almost killed me!" I said my temper growing.
"You're taking this too far, Laney." He was in front of me now.
"Don't you dare tell me I'm taking this too far. And don't you dare try mind tricks on me." I said referring to the fact that he was trying to make calm down and forget what he'd done. Fortunately I'm strong enough to know when it's happening and how to stop it.
