"RIIIIIIINNNNGGG!!!!!!" There went the bell at last. Finally, my brand new year in my brand new school had started! I couldn't wait! Summer that year seemed to be remarkably boring for me. I wasn't allowed to go to summer school because of my transfer to this new school, which really sucked by the way.
I got up from where I was sitting outside and headed inside the school. It was clustered full of strange persons I hadn't seen before. I really didn't know it was possible to have a population so diverse and yet so similar at the same time. As I looked around my new surroundings, I saw groups of people that, of course, you find in every school. I saw a group of girls standing next to the lockers in the hallway. I waved at them, but they didn't even wave back. They just turned and started talking to each other...I guess those are the gossipers. I gave a friendly greeting to the goth children standing near the exit of the school.
"Morning!" I yelled to them over the noise of the hallways. They simply glanced over at me, and just continued to mind their own business... that was rather awkward. But, anyways, I kept on walking until I came across a group that actually greeted me...
"Hey!" one of them shouted, "You with the glasses and messy hair! Over here!" I looked over at them. Every one of them had on a pair of glasses, and they were all holding textbooks in one hand, and a pencil case in the next. They all had smiles on their faces, and they all seemed rather amiable, so I walked over.
One of the guys stepped forward. He seemed like the most social of the group. He had brown hair that was very rough and unkempt. It was also rather long and shaggy. He had a pen in his shirt pocket, which was a different color than the rest of his shirt. Just by looking at him, I could tell he was quirky, as with the rest of the group. Each person there had something on that I don't think I've seen others do before. Another guy had on a blue sweater, with a weird green collared shirt underneath it. Meanwhile another had on a pair of black sweatpants with blue triangles going up the sides. Both the girls wore scarves; one had polka-dots, and the other plaid. Everyone was dressed differently, but something about them made them seem as if they were all alike...as if they were all meant to be friends.
"You don't look like you're from around here." The shaggy-haired boy told me, "What's your name?"
"It's Steven." I told him.
"Cool, cool...where you from, Stevie?" he asked me.
"Um... Brooklyn," I replied," I transferred here this year."
His eyes seemed to widen. "No way..." he murmured," You're that kid from Brooklyn! The kid who got straight A's through his exams! Nice job with that man!" I reddened. I didn't expect anyone in the school to know about that. But it was out and I couldn't stop it. So I told these guys the whole story;
"Oh...yeah... apparently, I was transferred to this new school because the school board at my previous school said I was "not challenged enough", so, they relocated me to this school where the curriculum is a bit higher. I can tell by looking at you guys that all of you are rather intelligent, so it'll be a pleasure being with you all this school year." I told them.
Four of them tilted their heads. One giggled. It was the girl with the polka-dotted scarf. Her giggle was a little pebble skipping across a lake. It was so quiet, but satisfying. I smiled.
"You're weird man. You sound like the principal." The guy with the sweatpants chuckled,"Don't get me wrong though. Weird is good. It's what makes a person unique, y'know?" I nodded. These guys seemed okay, as did the rest of the school. While this middle school, just like other schools, is divided into its separated groups, I had this strong feeling that even though we were all different in our own ways, all of us had a similar intelligence that would have us all trying to keep up with each other. But with that thought, the second bell rang. I walked with my new friends to the gym for the principal's address.
