"How can you even say that?"
Great. Here we go again. The wonderful lecture from not only a twenty-three year old but my best friend. Alexis.
I flashed her a smile and continued to walking, "Sex is just something that is not a number one priority. I rather it be with some real man then some boy who believes they are a man. Who I am married to." She scoffed to my reply and closed the gab by wrapping her arm around my shoulders.
"Oh but honey, its amazing!" She growled as she rolled her eyes.
I laughed and glanced towards her, "honey, I don't need that kind of excitement. I've got a very busy cheap college student life."
We continued walking down the street to the usual cafe that brought warmth to the stomach with cream, caramel, and coffee. Boy, I couldn't wait till we got there.
Suddenly she pulled her arm from my shoulder mumbled, "wow, one exciting life." her sarcasm not being discreet at all.
I only could smile at her. She was right though. In all reality, I hated the way my life was. I had no friends besides her and maybe a few others. Homework was also my life along with my soft purple blanket and a wonderful series on Netflix. I wasn't exciting at all.
"well," she sighed, "maybe some real excitement is around the corner."
I hoped she was right.
------------------------
We finally arrived and had placed ourselves in the corner of the cafe sipping our warm coffee. I sighed as the edge of the morning was washed away with its smooth taste.
Alexis rolled her neck in a circle as it made small crackles. She then stretched her arms up and released by giving a gasp as they feel to her side. She then smiled towards me, "You know, even though you don't like the whole idea of sex and such, how are you and Jessie?"
I flinched.
Her smile was instantly gone as she recognized that something was wrong, "What happened while I was gone for the weekend??"
My stomach tightened and I took a sip. I didn't want to remember the painful memory. It was still an awful picture in my mind that seemed to be a never-ending nightmare. I shook my head and swallowed hard. I couldn't even meet my eyes with hers in fear of tearing up.
Soon I felt the warmth of her hand pressed against my shoulder. "You don't have to talk about it yet." With relieve I gave her a nod and a smile. She returned the smile and then stood up. "I'll get us some more coffee."
As she walked away I swirled the gulp of coffee in the cup and watched the light brown texture move. My heart still felt tight as I tried to force the painful memory of Jessie's hand running across my face. His yell. His grip tightening on my wrists.
I shook my head and stood up quickly.
As I did so, a light shove sent me falling towards the ground with the coffee cup breaking against my side. I let out a gasp as I looked to the broken glass and then towards the direction of what caused the accident.
His jet black flowed into his face as he looked down towards me. His piercing green eyes seemed to glow as the sun hit them from the window. He reached out to me, his expression turning from cold to what seemed that a strained fear, "Are you alright?" He asked softly.
I placed my hand in his and he pulled me up to my feet. "Yeah, I think so." I looked to the floor and then to him.
He smiled with relieve and released my hand. "Thats good." My heart started to race as I stared into his green eyes. I held my hand close to my chest as if I didn't want the warmth of his hand to escape.
"Uh..." was all I managed to get out. Why was my heart racing?
Soon Alexis was standing next to me. Thank god! My hero is here to rescue me from embarrassing myself. I managed to avoid his eye contact as I let my gaze rest on Alexis.
"What the hell Jonathan!" She yelled.
"It was an accident." He laughed as he shrugged.
He wore a leather jacket over a grey t-shirt. His pants a dark blue jean. I didn't want to take my eyes off of him. I had to play it cool though. Maybe if I look to the coffee cup again it won't look like I'm checking him out.
Alexis pressed her finger to his chest. "Get out of here. I can only imagine the trouble that you would have coming in this direction." Her voice was cold and protective. I've never seen her like this. She was always so happy, positive, and sassy. She was never the protective "mother" ever.
I placed a hand on her shoulder, "Alexis, I'm alright. Its okay." I laughed and then looked to Jonathan, "it was only an accident."
He flashed me a smile and then turned his gaze back to Alexis, "yeah it was." He then turned his head away and said in a colder tone, "But, I probably should leave."
"Yes! You should!" She yelled.
He chuckled, "okay." As he walked away towards the exit, he took one more glance towards me. His eyes seemed to pierce my heart and I held my breath until he was completely gone. I suddenly noticed that I was still staring after him. Not only that but still held my hand close to my chest.
I shook my head as if it would help the daze go away and then turned to Alexis. She stared at me with fear in her eyes. Something felt wrong.
Too free the tension, I started laughing, "well what a morning right?"
"Yeah." she mumbled as she glanced towards the direction he went and then towards the coffee cup. "Sure was a morning."
