In a land far far way, there was Lucy who lives with a very happy family, and there was Carter who lived with his father in the gloomy fields. working in the fields. Carter's father had a great debt when his wife died that's why they are working in the fields. All Carter did was wake up- do chores- eat-sleep, and the cycle goes on and gets harder as he grew up. He called this, the Cycle.
Lucy is different. She lives in a very elite family, a family related to the royal family. She had a happy childhood. The thing is, Lucy wants to go outside the walls of elite-ness and see the world outside.
One day, she says to herself every time her parents scowl at her for asking.
One day, Carter was going to deliver crops for the first time! Carter was excited because it would be his first time entering the city walls.
While Carter was walking towards the gate, Lucy was walking also walking there too. They both had different goals set in their minds. Lucy, to escape; and Carter, to fit in.
Of course, the Fates had looked down and noticed the two young people. They both smiled in delight.
"Hmph." Carter grunted when someone hit him. He looked at that someone and saw that it was a girl. An Elite. He decided to be in his best manners.
Meanwhile, Lucy looked at the boy she had bumped to. He is from the Outside, it was very obvious.
"I'm really sorry." Lucy glanced at the crops. She picked it up but some were already ruined and stepped on. She felt really guilty for this.
"Oh dear. My dad will kill me for this." Carter muttered and Lucy heard.
"Maybe I can help. But, can you help me too?" she said.
"What now?" Carter forgot about being in his best manners.
"I-uh, want to travel to the Outside and you come from there so can you give me a tour? I will pay you and I will sell that with you." she said.
Carter thought for a moment.
He agreed and the Fates smiled. The story is just beginning.
While Lucy and Carter walked outside the gates, Carter stumbled and tripped, Lucy hopped and was all sunshine. She noticed Carter so she asked him what's happening. Carter explained the rotten luck that fell on him when his mother died. Lucy tried to trip herself to make Carter comfortable but the winds carried her and brought her to safety. She explained her luck to Carter, too. They both smiled at each other and it was clear that Love was blooming.
Lucy and Carter confessed their feelings to each other after a week of meeting each other at the gate. One day, Lucy had informed Carter that her family will be moving to another country!
They both decided to run to the gate and go somewhere different, together.
When night fell, Lucy ran towards the gate and she saw Carter. They both kissed but they didn't know it would be the last.
"Who's there? It's past curfew, you know." A patrol guard said and the couple broke their kiss and started running.
Fate frowned at the couple and let things happen.
Lucy stood still and felt the cold metal, the bullet hit her in the back and in the middle of her heart. Carter didn't hear the gunshot and he thought Lucy was running with him. So he ran and ran until he was tired and realized that his Lucy was gone.
Carter was heartbroken, believing that Lucy changed her mind and decided to go with her family. He sadly walked back home after two days and his father was nowhere. Carter decided to ask his neighbor, Bertha
"Didn't you know? He accidentally shot an Elite's daughter when he was working on patrol two nights ago." Bertha said.
"What's her name?" Carter said with fright in his throat.
"Oh. Lucy Gardiner, she's a remarkable girl, it's very sad that she's gone. She helps me in the market when she had the chance to. When her parents weren't looking. How sad." Bertha's voice was drowned by Carter's heartbeat.
His father and lover were dead all because of him.
