"I aint been this nervous in a long time."
"What are you nervous about? You got this. I've seen you do plenty of people's hair, nails, and makeup before."
"Yeah but none of them were celebrities. And me not knowing who it is doesn't help."
"Girl if you don't quit buggin out. You makin me nervous and I'm just here for moral support. I've not once heard anybody compain about any of your work. The only way you can mess this up is by letting your nerves get the best of you. Just chill out."
"I'm tryin. I got so much anxiety that I can't think straight."
"{laughs} I think once you figure out who the client is you'll be just fine."
"Well if you would just tell me, we could get that out of the way right now."
"Can't you just wait and see like everybody else?"
"Not when my job is on the line. But you ain't talkin so I don't have a choice."
"We're almost there. A few more minutes won't hurt you."
"No but they might cause an anxiety attack and it's gone be all on you."
I looked out the window knowing Tiff was giving me one of those "really" looks. My name is Kylani by the way. I'm a makeup artist but I do hair and nails here and there. No point of learning something if I'm not going to do anything with it. Anyways, my best friend, Tiffany, got me this job with my first celebrity cient in Atlanta and she won't tell me who it is. All I know is he's a male and he's new. Doesn't tell you much right? So you get my delimna.
We pull up this beautiful plaza and I was trying to take it all in while I was making my way up to my client. When we got to the room I took a deep breath while Tiffany stood there with a smile on her face. I knocked and was surprised at who answered. "Come in," he said. I opened the door and was greeted with a smile. "Hi," I said with a smile on my face trying to make sure I wasn't cheesing.
"How are you?"
"I'm good. How are you?"
"Im good. I'm pretty sure Tiffany already told you that you were supposed to be doing my hair and makeup."
"Actually she didn't. And you're hair's already cut."
"It is. Now it's time for you to meet your real clients."
I looked at Tiffany confused then back at him. They just smiled as three cuties came walking through the door. I grew even more excited because they had long hair meaning I could be more creative...and I just love kids. Especially girls. "Hey uncle August," one of the little cuties said. "What's up?" "Look at what uncle Boobie bought us to wear." They were too excited to show him their clothes and shoes. I just smiled at the sight of him and his nieces because it reminded me of me and my niece. I was also glad they came with outfits so that I could do something that compliments them. I thought it was best that they got dressed first because I knew once I finished with their hair and the little bit of makeup I was going to put on them that they were going to stay in the mirror (I get cocky from time to time but this was confidence).
Once I finished their hair and put a little eyeshadow and lip gloss om them, they were doing exactly what I predicted. The two little ones were in the mirror twirling in their dresses while the oldest was getting her pictures taken. "Well...they are clearly satisfied so that means my job here is done," I said smiling.
"Yeah you really did your thing. Thank you."
"It was kind of my job. But you're welcome. I really enjoyed them." I started packing up my makeup, curling irons, etc. I took a picture with the girls just to add to my portfolio and me then Tiff said goodbye and headed out the door. We started walking towards the elevator and I gave her a really tight hug. "Thank you so much. You are the bestest friend in the whole wide world. August Alsina's nieces? I can't believe it." I sounded so star struck because I was. I was in the presence of August Alsina. She just laughed. "I told you I got you and I meant that."
"How did you even pull this off?"
"We have mutual friends and I heard through them that he was looking for somebody. I didn't know it were for his nieces though. I thought he was going to be the client."
"Me too." When we got to the elevator, Tiffany hit the buttom and we waited for the elevator to make it to our floor. We heard somebody holler "ay hold up!" We looked down the hallway and it was August. I was praying it wasn't anything bad. I made sure I was super careful with the girls hair and they seemed like they were in love with the looks they were givin. "Anything wrong," I asked.
"Nah. My nieces are still in the mirror." We laughed. "I was wondering if you were doing anything later on."
"Well I was gone head back to Little Rock but I guess I can crash at Tiffany's tonight. What's up?"
"A few of us were gonna check out this club later on and I was tryna see if you wanted to join us."
"Is Tiffany invited?"
"Of course."
I looked at Tiffany to ask her if she wanted to go without actually saying anything. "You already know I wanna go. I don't know why you looking at me like you don't." I laughed. "I guess we'll see you later."
"I guess so." He started walking the other way and Tiffany nudged me. Just then the elevator opened and we got in.
Later that day, Tiffany got a message from her friend, Marrisa, who was one of her and August's mutual friends. She told her where they were going to be and when to meet up with them. "August was feeling you miss ma'am."
"Him inviting us to the club does not mean he wants to get with me. He was just flirting a little."
"Uh last I checked he only invited you. You added me to the list." I laughed.
A few hours later, we both took showers and got dressed. I was keepin it casual with some sky blue fitted sweats with a plain white long seeve shirt that had the shoulders cut out and some black jordans. My makeup was natural and my hair was in a high bun. Tiffany, on the other hand, was dressed to impress. She had on some high waist shorts that had those cheeks sitting just right with a white crop. She had on some five inch red bottoms with the chains on the back of the heels that gave her butt that extra height it needed. Her hair was in a ponytail and her make up was Marilyn Monroe-ish. We took a few pitcures of oursleves and togeher before we headed out the door.
