My mother's dead...? No she can't be.... I read the note over and over again, not believing my eyes. I could not even think about finishing the note. I stare at the paper, not noticing the words, but I notice blotches of water on the bottom of it. I touch my cheeks, and notice they were wet. Then, as if my heart was like glass, it shattered. Then tears started flowing like a broken dam. I placed the paper on the desk. I turned around and fell to my knees, yelling at the top of my lungs.

                          Lee's POV
I dozed off as soon as I got out the shower. Man his bed is so comfy, I could lay there forever.... A few minutes later I was dreaming, but it was soon ended by the sound of yelling. I sat up quickly. I could here the sheer anger and sadness in that yell. I get up and run to were the yelling was coming from. I open the door at the end of the hall to see Robert on his knees, yelling. I rush to him and hold him in my arms "Robert calm down....please." He continued to yell. After a while, he stopped, and started to cry more, but silent this time "Robert, what happened?"

His body was shaking like crazy, and he lifts one arm to the desk, which has a piece of paper on it. I grab the piece of paper and read it. I now know why he was crying. His mother's dead?! Oh Robert..... I set the note down, and hold him close to me. He continues to cry for hours, until he passed out in my arms. I pick him up and walk to his room. I place him on the bed, and let him sleep. I go back into his work room and fold the note and put it back on the desk. I walk into the living room. I sit down on the couch thinking: Who would kill someones mother and feel no remorse doing it, that is fucked up.

     End of Lee's POV
                                   -The Next Morning-
I open my eyes lazily, and notice that I was in my room. Did Lee bring me to my room? I sit up and walk out to the living room. I see Lee asleep on the couch. I walk into the kitchen and look in the fridge. I spot some bacon, eggs, and a couple English muffins. I turn the stove on and start cooking. I look out the window, checking the road. There was a single zombie on the road, going the opposite direction from my house. I hear Lee yawning a few minutes later, and he walked into the kitchen walking towards me. "Morning." He yawns, giving me a half hug, and walks toward the fridge. I nod, not wanting to talk. He doesn't notice, so he goes back to the living room with a bottle of water.

"So what's the plan?" He yawns, sitting on the couch, "The only thing that I'm worried about is making breakfast." I reply, as I finish making breakfast. I place the food on two plates, and walk into the living room, handing Lee a plate. He smiles happily and starts devouring his food. I set my food down. I sit down in a chair opposite of Lee and eat my food in silence. Me and him eat in silence for a few minutes until he asks, "Robert are you alright?" I set my plate down, only half done with my food. "Yes, I'm fine Lee." I get up and walk and go to my room. I put my shoes on and walk towards the door. Lee looks at me "What are you doing?" I look back at him as I grab my machete off the side of the wall, "I'm going out." And with that I walk out the door.

I walk down the porch, and start walking down the road. As I'm looking around, the world hasn't seemed to have changed, even with this outbreak happening. Out in the distance I can hear birds chirping. As I continue walking a thought hit me: What if my friends are all dead? I come across the road where I know my friends live, and I stop when I hear someone screaming. I start running down the road to where the screaming came from.

As I'm looking around, someone runs into me from the side. Me and the person fall to the ground. I lay there dazed for a couple of seconds, until I hear something growl. The person gets off of me and backs away from me. I look up to see a zombie quickly walking towards me. I get up and grab my machete and swing it at the corpse. I hear a loud schlick, and the corpse falls to the ground. I turn and look at the person who ran into me.

She's a young girl, around my age, sixteen or so. Not that tall, probably 5'4 to 5'6, with slightly long brown hair with blue streaks in it. She was staring at me, apparently horrified of what I did. "Are you alright?" I ask, lowering my machete. She blinks a few times and looks at me"Hm? Oh yeah I'm fine, thanks for saving me." She stretches out her hand, "The names Ashley, but people call me Ash. What's your name?" I blink a few times and think: Is she not fazed at what's going on?

I shake her hand "My names Robert, nice to meet you. Do you live nearby?" Her eyes darken, "No, I was with my friends when this happened... I didn't think my friend was infected until she....." She tears up, and kneels to the ground crying. I walk over to her "It's okay, you're safe for the time being. Do you wanna come to my house?" She looks up at me, and nods but she doesn't move. Her body was shaking uncontrollably. Never mind, she's going into shock. So, without thinking, I kneel down and pick her up. She looks at me with teary eyes, and smiles lightly. I kneel slightly to grab my machete, but she grabs it for me. I nod, and start walking back to my house.

A few minutes later I walk back up onto my porch, my arms getting a little sore from carrying her. I knock lightly, and Lee opens the door. He looks at me, then at Ash in my arms, and blinks "Ummm... Care to explain?" I nod as I walk into the house. I head to my room and place Ash on my bed. I walk out and close the door, and turn back to Lee. I sit down, and he still looks at me. "What?" He sighs, "What's with the girl in your arms?" I blink a few times "Oh that. Well in short I heard her scream down the road. I killed a zombie and she kind of broke down." I inhale as I finish my explanation, "Her name is Ashley." I lean back in my couch and yawn, feeling slightly tired. He shakes his head. "Alright, but what are we gonna do with her?" I look at him, "What do you mean? I'm not gonna let her go back out there alone."

"Well of course not, but do you think we can manage having three people here?" He sits next to me. I look at him, "Of course, and you do realize that we can scavenge off of the nearby houses." He nods and sighs "Let's not think about this at the moment." I nod in agreement as he continues, "We just got here, but we need to figure out a plan." I stand up, looking out the window "I'll go scavenge the gas station for some water and food." I start getting light headed and stumble slightly. "And I can possibly find some other things so we can be ready when we need to..." I didn't get the chance to finish my sentence. All I felt was me hitting the ground, and everything went black.
