Iris Greenie-I sat back in relaxation, humming to the soft delicate piano pice drifting through my earbuds as the rain pounded heavily outside the car.
I slowly ran the pale of my fingertips across the cool window tracing out the beautiful scarlet drops that dripped calmly against the glass, sliding down delicately.
The vehicle suddenly came to a halt, tires squeaking loudly against the wet pavement.
"We're here" My father said cheerfully.
Beside me, my brother Brandon awoken from his nap, his chestnut hair sticking up in all directions. He loudly yawned stretching out his limbs."Will ya look at the size of that baby" I commented in amazement.
Infront of me in the passenger seat mom leaned over to look out my fathers window.
"Yes Mark this house is very big, and they said it would be furnished, are you sure this was in the budget?" She asked jokingly with a warm smile on her face."With a price like that they were practically begging me to buy it" Dad emphasized his blue eyes sparkling in excitement.
Stepping out the car I shivered against the cold rain that easily began to soak through the thin fabric of my red flannel.
Our new house sat pouched up in the center of a massive grassy field. The house was an old but well built two story structure with large windows and a chimney. This would definitely be a change to our family seeing as in we were so used to living in small apartments.
Once retrieving our suitcases The four of us quickly darted to the porch to escape the merciless rain.It took dad a few seconds jiggling the keys in the polished door before it unlocked, opening with a loud moan.
We scurried inside practically dripping wet, but nevertheless in joyish relief. The house was definitely as big on the inside as it was on the out.
My eyes could never land on one particular thing before meeting yet another."Dad this is incredible" I said turning in a circle.
"Yes it truly is" he agreed, we both seemed to be in admiration"This is nice and everything but I have a headache and these bags are heavy so which rooms do we go to?" Brandon interrupted with a forced irritated look on his face even though it was clear that he was hiding excitement.
"In whatever room you want" Dad said with a smirk.
In that second Brandon and I made eye contact before the both of us went racing up the stairs in search to find the best room.
In our competitive hunt my eyes landed on a room in the furthest corner of the house were it was most silent. I walked inside strikingly appealed by the room.It was big and contained a queen sized bed with a dark wooden frame, a dresser, a glorious portable closet, a bedside table with a Jewel coated lamp, and a large bay window draped in lavender curtains.
The room was spectacular but I still wanted to look at all the other rooms before I made a choice.I began to leave the room until a shimmer of sparkling light from the corner of my eye caught my attention.
I reluctantly turned around my eyes meeting the source, the large black dust covered portable closet In the left quadrant of the wide spaced bedroom.I made my way toward it, the floor boards creaking under my weight.
Extending out my hands I wrapped my fingers around the handles giving it a pull.
It wouldn't budge to my dismay. I then noticed the locket in between the two door handles.I let my arms fall by my sides, a sigh leaving my parted lips.
I traced my fingers over the antique silver locket and the fancy rose peddles embezzled in it.
I had never seen such detailed craftsmen-shift.
I stood up looking the closet up and down in suspicion.I began to wonder if my brain was simply playing tricks on me or if it was the lightning striking outside but I could've sworn that I had saw a light flickering in the cracks of this closet.
Shrugging my shoulders I placed my bags on the bed claiming this as my bedroom.
I walked back over to the dresser and ran my forefinger along the surface collecting a thick streak of caked on dust and dirt. I grimaced in disgust,
I will definitely be spending all of tomorrow cleaning and dusting."So this is the room you picked huh" My moms head popped in the doorway. "Yep" I answered coolly.
"Well well I'm impressed Iris it's very spacious" her heeled boats clacked against the floor as she walked around in observation."Your brother's going to be very jealous once he sees this" she said tucking a long pice of
her brown hair behind her ear."How big is his room?"
"Believe me it's big but not like this" she professed."Christine honey have you seen my... woah" My dad barged in.
He looked around the bedroom in approval."This is nice Iris good pick" He complimented.
His blue eyes looking everywhere."Well we're gonna leave you be now just came up to tell you that pizza will be here in twenty minutes" Mom stated leaving the room with dad following in suit.
By the time the rain had softened down to a drizzle, the sky was dark and it was nighttime.
We ate our pizza by the fireplace conversing about how amazing the house was and how incredibly lucky we were to have been granted this fresh start
"So what is there to do for fun here anyway ?" Brandon asked. My father thought for a moment running his fingers through his thick beard.
"There's a movie theatre" he offered."Yea and I think I saw a mall on the drive through town" Mom added.
"Great, dad can I take the car tomorrow ?I need to buy some new posters for my room" Brandon asked.
"Only after you finish cleaning-"
"Yes!"
"Hold up I wasn't finished, and you have to bring along Iris" mom finished with mischief in her brown eyes.
"Mooooom I never get to leave the house by myself!""You heard your mother either Iris comes or you don't go, it's plain and simple" Dad stated with authority in his deep voice.
I looked away awkwardly as Brandon sent me a death glare.
It's not like I asked to go, but then again I'm glad my mom is making him take me because I needed to to do a little room shopping myself.I returned to my bedroom after dinner tired and exhausted from the long day.
I changed into some sweatpants and a tank top before shuffling into the queen bed.My body instantly relaxed against the soft mattress and after tossing and turning for a bit, I fell into a peaceful slumber.
Well, it was peaceful until I was jolted awake by the sound of boyish laughter coming from within the bedroom.
